Dangerous in Diamonds
Dangerous in Diamonds is part of Madeline Hunter's Regency Quartet. Other books in the series include Ravishing in Red, Provocative in Pearls, and Sinful in Satin.
Tristan, Duke of Castleford is amazingly wealthy, devastatingly handsome and completely unrepentant about his rakish ways. When the fourth Duke of Becksbridge dies, Castleford is surprised to receive a bequest of several small properties in his will, and is further intrigued to encounter the luscious Daphne Joyes living on one of those properties. He assumes that Daphne is one of Becksbridge's secret mistresses and sets out to win her into his bed. Castleford's reputation precedes him, however, and the coolly competent Daphne wants nothing to do with him, no matter the sensual plans he has in store for her.
Daphne Joyes is a woman who has endured much to get where she is today. A victim of a perverted nobleman's inappropriate attentions years ago, she is distrustful of men in general and noblemen in particular. She is content to raise her flowers, provide shelter to other women who have suffered, and live her simple life, but when her property changes hands, she is forced to deal with Castleford. Daphne is slowly mesmerized by the handsome Castleford, even as her previous experiences warn her to stay far, far away from him. But, something about him has an undeniable hold on her...
Dangerous in Diamonds is a Regency tale pitting a woman's will against the seductive powers of a man. Daphne and Tristan are perfectly crafted for one another - she with her icy façade of reserve just waiting to be melted away, he with his protective and sincere heart hidden by his wicked rogue's lifestyle. Watching them right the wrongs around them as they unite for a common purpose was enchanting, but the sensuality of this piece nearly blew my socks off and was equally rewarding. The author made good use of the villain in this story, and tied up every loose end admirably. Five Angels for Dangerous in Diamonds.
