Glow
Glow is book one of the Sky Chasers series by Amy Kathleen Ryan.

Waverly Marshall is a 15-year old girl among the first conceived in deep space while her crewmates travel to a world yet unknown. Her ship, the Empyrean, and its sister ship, the New Horizon, carry two separate contingents of people who have left the pollution and decay of Earth to journey to New Earth. This journey will take many years, and along the way, Waverly finds herself torn between the upwardly mobile boy-next-door next in line to become captain of their ship and the bad boy from a difficult family background. Soon, however, her relationship troubles take a backseat to an unexpected attack from the most surprising of sources. Waverly is called upon to become a leader and to make decisions that will result in life or death, not just for herself but also for many of the people she knows and cares about. When forced to make choices like that, how can a young and inexperienced woman cope?

Prepare yourself for a fantastic, futuristic look at the bare bones of human nature and the corruption that results from absolute power. Glow delves into the dark recesses of what makes people tick and how like sheep we really are when faced with an secretly insane and power hungry leader with a plan that raises no alarms until it is too late. Waverly is excellently crafted - she fairly leaps off the page with verve and a sense of purpose. I admired her greatly. The love triangle is well written, aptly capturing every girl's dilemma of choosing between the bad boy and the good guy. The situations Waverly found herself thrust into were gripping and had me on the edge of my seat throughout the book. I'll be looking forward with great anticipation for the next book in this series! Five Angels and a Recommended Read!
