Seduced by the Highlander
Seduced by the Highlander is book three of the Highlander series by Julianne Maclean. Other books in the series include book one, Captured by the Highlander, and book two, Claimed by the Highlander.
Lachlan MacDonald is a powerful man on the battlefield and a passionate man in the bedroom, but now he is a man cursed. He was tricked, held captive and summarily spelled by Raonaid, a vicious witch seeking revenge. Lachlan has lost his position as laird of war for his clan, his cousin's trust and his honor, but he plans to recover it all. He seeks after the redheaded witch, the source of all his troubles, and finds her posing as an heiress to the wealth of the Drumloch family. She is a crafty one, and soon they are on a journey back to his home to see what the future holds for them.
Lady Catherine Mongomery has just been reunited with her family after having been missing for five years. She is their last hope of retaining the family fortune, as without an heir, the wealth all reverts to the Jacobite cause. But, Catherine has strange visions and memories that cannot possibly be her own, causing her to want to get to the real truth of who she is and why Lachlan MacDonald hates her so. He is obviously mistaken, as he thinks that she is Raonaid, and Catherine is utterly horrified when she finds out the depths of evil to which Raonaid has sunk. She couldn't possibly be so wicked...could she?
Seduced by the Highlander is a romance novel set in Scotland in the 1700's; it's a time of clan wars and divided loyalties. Lachlan is a man who has no trouble with the ladies until his irreverence lands him in hot water with the witch and he finds himself cursed and dishonored. Lady Catherine is a woman relearning herself after a bout with amnesia and not being able to remember the last five years. She is a strong character, morally upright and determined to find out what has happened to her to this point so that she can move on with her life. These two spit and spat together, with those disagreements being some of the best scenes of the book. Soon, as these things often do, the focus turns to passion and sparks flying between them. I found the feelings between them to be quite genuinely portrayed, but the storyline seemed to be a bit difficult to follow. As with many series books, there wasn't an adequate backstory given, for readers who are unfamiliar with the rest of the series to really catch up on the overall story arc. The setting was lovely and authentic, and the story resolved itself satisfactorily. Four Angels.
