Chuck can't believe what is happening in his life. Jason, the man he loves, is marrying his father's assistant, Allison. After they first met, Chuck wasn't sure if he wanted Jason as a roommate and when his father demanded a background check, he was surprised when Jason's sexual preference didn't come to light. Chuck's dad, Governor Armstrong, is strongly against gay rights and Chuck isn't in the closet. Jason was quiet at first, but soon they become fast friends while exploring their interest in music, until Jason made the first move. The time they spend together is like a dream come true. Then things come crashing down when Allison arrives, announcing that she is Jason's fiancée, ripping Chuck's world apart. Is all a cruel joke or is there more going on than Chuck realizes?

Unfortunately, Avowed is a story that is frequently seen in today's society. Many people are intolerant of others who are different from them. Prejudice spans from color and religion, but individuals who are gay are treated horrible by many different cultures. It was sad to see how afraid Jason was to tell his family about his being gay, but the reason behind his agreement to marry Allison showed his integrity. I felt bad for Chuck when his love for Jason was thrown back into his face, but even with all the heartache, he never gave up that somehow they would be together. This is a perfect story to remind you all things are possible if you follow your heart.
