Faded Star
Faded Star by Shawn Bailey is a contemporary homoerotic romance.
Heath thought he had everything he wanted as a movie star, and with his lover, Aaron until Aaron told the media about their affair, leaving his life in ruins. Heath got himself drunk and he refused to listen to Malcolm, a co-star, when he offered to drive him home. Unfortunately, he didn't realize he shouldn't be driving until right before he crashed his car, injuring himself. Heath's sister, Grace took over setting up his care while he convalesced by getting him a secluded home and hiring Seiji Kichida to care for him until he is back on his feet. Seiji agrees to take on the job knowing what a terror Heath can be, so when Heath awakens, Seiji gets his first taste of his of disposition. Heath awakens disoriented and angered about his restrictions, treating Seiji terribly. In spite of his nasty attitude, Seiji maintains his calm and reasonable behavior. Heath is very attracted to Seiji and makes passes at Seiji every chance he has. Is Heath's attraction momentary, or are his feelings heartfelt? Is Seiji willing to take a chance on Heath?
Faded Star is a wonderful short story with characters that come to life for the reader. It's sad how actor's lives are paraded around with no regard for their privacy. It's horrible how the media feel that it's their right to ferret out information for all to read about. I loved how Seiji stood up to the press without giving them any information, showing them as the vultures they are. Watching Heath change from behaving like a spoiled brat to someone who thought about others ahead of himself was inspiring. Seiji was one of the few people who saw beyond the movie star attitude to the real man underneath. Faded Star is perfect for anyone who enjoys a beautiful love story.
