Star Child
Star Child by Ada Avery is a sci-fi romance story with a contemporary setting.
Josie Sanchez's life hasn't been the easiest and she can't seem to hold a boyfriend, let alone a job. It doesn't help that most people think her daughter Riley, is strange. To be honest, Riley's obsession with UFO's, her off the chart intelligence, her unique eyes, and her waiting for the Star People gives others a good reason to think she's strange, but even with all that, Josie loves her. Josie may not be the greatest mother but she does the best that she can. To appease her boyfriend, Josie takes Riley to a child psychologist, who quickly diagnoses her but Josie, in her heart, knows there is nothing wrong with Riley. Josie starts having disturbing dreams about aliens and procedures that scare her to death and things come to a head when Josie agrees to allow a drifter, Colt Dixon, to stay the night. But, before it ends, they're all on the run from the men in black who're intent on taking Riley away. Could Riley have been right all along?
Star Child is an incredible story that held me spellbound from the start. Riley's unique abilities and different appearance brought the idea of aliens to life for me. The thought of being kidnapped and put through unknown medical procedures is very scary. Just ask the people who swear they've been through it. Colt's willingness to protect Josie and Riley was great but the big question is, why? At the end, I was left hanging, as the outcome of Josie, Colt, and Riley's lives were left in question. What happened to Riley? Will Josie and Colt ever regain their lives? I hope that this isn't the end of their story.
