Addicted To You
When Katie Hughes arrives on the doorstep of family friend Rill Pierce, the last place she expects is to find herself is bent over the bed by the sexy Irish filmmaker, who is almost incoherently drunk. She is grateful, if just the tiniest bit disappointed, when it is clear that he was in a black out, because she can move forward with her plan to "save" him from his pit of guilt driven self-destruction and isolation following the death of his wife. Unfortunately, Rill is not on board with her plan and resists it vehemently, almost as strongly as he fights the rising sensual tension between them
When he finally surrenders, they heat up the sheets in a way he's never experienced in all his years of exploration, and he is in turns thrilled terrified by the intensity of it. However, when Katie realizes she's pregnant, he insists that he is not the baby's father, and is forced to reveal truths about his marriage. Can Katie face the fact that he doesn't remember the first night they were together and that she is partially responsible for that when she took the coward's way out by not confronting him the next morning? Can Rill put to rest the nightmare of his own childhood, and deal with his fears about the "bad blood" running through his veins?
Wow. Just Wow. I cannot remember the last time I was yanked into an erotic story like I was with Addicted to You by Bethany Kane. I made the mistake of opening the book for the famous "page 99 test" and two hours later I was about to start the last chapter! Forcing myself to stop and go back to the first page was very much a case of the shutting the barn door when the horse was no longer even in sight, but I did it anyway.
The sex scenes are off the charts hot, but more importantly we get a vivid sense of who the characters are, and what drives them. Rill's explosive sexuality is balanced by his true caring and concern for Katie's welfare. Katie's inclination to save the world, starting with Rill, is evened out by her heretofore untapped potential for hedonism. The secondary characters are totally fleshed out as well. This is one of those stories when you become attached and don't want to say good-bye at the end. In fact, I would be first in line should Ms. Kane ever be so kind as to write a follow up featuring Katie's brother Everett, who qualifies as yummy in every possible way! I highly recommend Addicted to You.
