Reverb
Reverb by Jet Mykles is a contemporary homoerotic story.
Marlowe has everything, fame, fortune, and anyone male or female that takes his fancy, except for the one thing he wants more than anything else, Nicky the guitar player in his band. Marlowe decides that after the concert he will finally get his wish. As people gain fame, many things, including drugs, are easily obtained and Marlowe uses them in excess! Marlowe talks Nicky into taking X then joining him, but he never expected to have Marlowe come onto him giving him most erotic experience he has ever had.
Unfortunately, Marlowe's decision to drive while high ends up with Nicky badly hurt, landing Marlowe in prison and the only Kip, his manager standing by him. During his sentence, Marlowe begins to understand that his drug use covered up many things, including his deep feelings for Nicky, but will Nicky ever forgive him? Nicky learns he may never regain full use of his injured arm making him unable to play the music he loves. His feelings for Marlowe seesaw from hate to passionate desire, but which will win out? Marlowe finally is released from prison, but will he regain his old life or does he even want to?
Ms. Mykles's story shows the intense drive it takes to succeed in the music business and how many people can easily loose themselves in the process. It is sad to see someone who appears to have so much, like Marlowe, loose themselves as their drug abuse takes over their lives. On the surface, Marlowe appeared cocky and confident in his abilities, but in reality, he had the same fear and confusion that everyone else has. It was incredible how, in spite of everything that happened, Nicky was willing to trust and believe in Marlowe, in spite of the past. Kip may have been Marlowe's manager, but when Marlowe was at his lowest point he never stopped believing in or supporting him. Most people would have walked away and it was a testament to Kip's friendship that even though he didn't condone Marlowe's behavior he stood by him. I loved reading how they created their new band Reverb and all the hard work that went into reaching for their dreams.
