One For The Road
Forty-six-year-old, D'Anne Palmer is beside herself when she finds herself a widow, and broke, after her dear husband, Reese, of twenty-five years dies after mixing some Viagra and heart medication. She wonders why he would mix nitrates and Viagra knowing they were lethal. D'Anne's best friend, Theresa, believes that he possibly committed suicide and wasn't completely broke but perhaps hid his money somewhere. D'Anne searches frantically in every nook and cranny, wondering if that might be possible but comes up empty. All she has left is the RV that she now calls her home. It was the last purchase she and Reese made together, and she refuses to part with it. She desperately needs to return to California but with no funds that is impossible. Tyler White wants to be a country singer. Ten years ago, he had a number one hit country song and a wife, and he lived large. Once the royalties stopped coming, she didn't stay around any longer. Then his second wife sought Southern Comfort more than being with him. All he has is his dog, Dexter. At forty-two he formed a new band, and now all he needs is transportation to return home and try to make it big. He needed to rent an RV to make his trips with the band but the price was not within his budget. When he happens to meet D'Anne and sees her RV, he decides to negotiate a business deal that could benefit them both. Neither knew it would be an experience neither would forget.
One for the Road is a delightful tale that kept this reader flipping the pages. I could feel the frustrations of D'Anne as she faced being a widow and trying to just get by. When she meets Tyler, the story takes on a whole different depth. The vibrant casts take one adventure that is truly wonderful. D'Anne and Tyler have suffered through many afflictions that only seem to make them stronger, yet they are skeptical when it comes to falling in love again. Lynne Marshall creates a story about two characters that have never met yet suffer situations that draw them together. I could just picture Dexter, the accompanying musicians, and D'Anne and Tyler, all aboard the RV on their travels. This intriguing tale has some fun, some ups and downs along the way, and a colorful cast that is quite refreshing.
