A Death in Katy
Annie Reynolds used to be happy. She had a loving husband and two beautiful children. But Jake changed about a year ago. He started abusing her, having affairs with all sorts of women and then coming home and telling her about the other women and what he had done with them. Annie decided she had had enough and she had to get herself and the kids out of there but wondered how they would survive, she had not finished her education and had no job. Then Jake and a woman were found shot to death in a cheap motel and Annie was the main suspect. It was common knowledge that they hadn't been getting along and he had been seeing other women.

Defective Martin O'Connell was the officer assigned to the case but when he met Annie he just couldn't believe she was guilty. She was everything he had ever wanted in a woman and he had a reputation for picking the wrong woman to fall for. He fell in love with her almost at first sight. When his boss saw what was happening, he told him to wrap the case up as it should be an open and shut case. Martin knew she wasn't guilty and had to prove it before the killer came after Annie or before she was sent away for a murder she hadn't committed.

This is an excellent book and I would recommend it to anyone. I could not put it down. There was mystery and romance, and a very believable story. You have an abusive husband, and an abused woman trying to survive and the cop that's out to see justice done - what more could you ask for? This is the first book by Lynn Lorenz that I have read but I will put her on my list to read.
