Switched
Wendy suspects she's different but has no idea just how different she is. When she was six, her mother attempted to kill her, screaming that she was a monster and not the son she insists she gave birth to. Wendy's intense classmate, Finn, always seems to be staring at her. She's attracted to him, which unnerves her because she's not impressed by anyone. Finn reveals to her that she's not human; she's Trylle, or a troll, and a princess at that. She was switched at birth, a changeling, and he's been sent to finally take her home.
Once there, she learns she's to inherit an entire kingdom, one filled with magic and beauty. From simple teenage life to one of adventure and high expectations, Wendy isn't sure she has what it takes to exist in this enchanted world. What's more, there are warring factions out there who want to ensure she doesn't rule and her time in the Trylle community might be over before it has a chance to truly begin.
Amanda Hocking first entered the scene as a self-publishing author, her stories quickly gaining a large readership. St. Martin's took notice and now, Switched is available in print. This print novel also contains a new short story for fans new and old.
Wendy is a typical teenager, a little introverted and she's quite appealing as she doesn't fit in well at school, has few friends and is really trying to find her way in life. As she's introduced into this new world, the range of emotions from disbelief that trolls exist to awe when presented with its reality is fairly palpable. Characters, main and secondary, are well written and multi-dimensional. The plot moves quickly. I was engaged from page one and read the entire story in one sitting. It's easy to see why this story went viral. I, for one, already have the second story of this trilogy in my wish list and cannot wait to continue reading Wendy's journey.
