Twice Fallen
Twice Fallen is Book Two of the Ladies in Waiting series by Emma Wildes. Book One of the series is entitled One Whisper Away.

Lady Lillian Bourne finds herself enmeshed in yet another potential scandal when she is inadvertently trapped in a locked library with one of society's most rakish gentlemen. She's braved a reentry to society after her elopement nearly ruined her reputation four years ago, and can't afford any missteps, as she is being sponsored by one of society's powerhouses, the Dowager Duchess of Eddington. Lord Damien surprises her by treating her kindly and doing everything he can to protect Lillian's fragile hold on respectability. When the spark of attraction that flares between them catches fire, can they trust one another to make their passion into something more permanent?

Lord Damien Northfield spent his military career as a spy, and nearly lost his leg in the process. He is enchanted when he meets the lovely Lady Lillian, and her predicament intrigues him, as does her beauty and wit. Supposedly retired from service to his country, Lord Damien is soon called upon to investigate a blackmailing scheme that's led to several deaths...and involves the Lady Lillian.

Emma Wildes pleases with a witty and enchanting book that will capture the interest of Regency-loving readers. She capably conveys all the pomp and circumstance of the era while wrapping it around a story that moves right along in an energetic and focused plot. I loved Lady Lillian with her sense of honor and loyalty, and Lord Damien was a wonderful character as well. He was excellently written, an unsung hero and wickedly intelligent. The plot flowed smoothly and I was sad to see it end. Five Angels!
