Untamed
Untamed is the newest novel in the McKinnon's Rangers series. Other novels in the series include Surrender and the upcoming Defiant.
Amalie Chauvanet is a sheltered, convent-raised young woman trapped by the British in a French outpost at Fort Ticonderoga. She sees her father, a French officer, off to the battle, and does her best to assist in the infirmary with all of the wounded and dying men. When she receives tragic news, she learns to detest the men who hurt her so irreparably - MacKinnon's Rangers. Fate has big plans for Amalie, however, and she must choose between vengeance and passion when the MacKinnon's leader is unexpectedly thrust into her care. Which will she choose?
Morgan MacKinnon is a living, breathing legend. Highly skilled at stealth and in weaponry, he and his brothers have made their Rangers an elite, effective force against the French. Although they are forced to serve the British government by a dishonest, unscrupulous man, they still serve to the utmost, even when Morgan is wounded and captured. Morgan must then decide between honoring a promise given under duress and betraying a good, genuine man. The fate of nations hang in the balance, as does his newly budding attraction to the delectable Mademoiselle Chauvanet. Does romance stand a chance when the lovers are on opposite sides of a political powder keg?
Untamed is a wonderfully written book about love, honor and family. I so enjoyed the tone of the book, from Amalie's desire for home and family to Morgan's highly developed sense of right and wrong. Amalie was so sweet and genuine; it was difficult to see her struggles against forces beyond her control, but rewarding to watch her get her happy ending. Morgan is a rough and tumble kind of man, but his core is all solid strength and integrity. Seeing him caught in a quandary that pitted keeping his principles correct versus the duty he is charged with was one of the high points of the book. This one is a winner, with secondary characters that fairly beg for their own stories, strong family ties and a passion that is uncommon. I'm hooked! I look forward to more books in this series, and I'll be hunting the first book up as well. Five Angels!
