A Lesson Learned
A Lesson Learned by Carol Lynne is the fourteenth book in the Campus Cravings series.

Dane Jefferson has been in love with Professor Magnus Sofokleous for a long time and now has a difficult decision to make that could change everything. Magnus applied for a grant from the James D. Barrett Institute, not knowing that Dan was a distant relative of his. Dane's mother, knowing that he is studying anthropology, has asked him to look over the proposal for the institute. Dane is Magnus's TA and wants to accompany Magnus on the research project, which places him in a awkward position. After talking to his friend Bobby, Dane decides to explain the situation to Magnus and see what he thinks. Magnus had been lusting after Dane, but walled off his feelings when he was a teenager to cope with the cold attitude from his parents. Being a dominant allows him to control his needs without the emotional baggage love brings and Dane spells trouble. When Dane asked specifically what Magnus was looking for, he revealed an old Choctaw Indian Bead necklace that was supposedly from the last member of a tribe living on the Barrett Plantation. As far as Dane knows, the land has been his families for decades and the native History Institute was founded by James, but no natives ever lived there. Magnus and James agree to uncover the truth about what happened, but what they learn about each other may be as important and revealing as the past is for them.

A Lesson Learned is different from the earlier Campus Cravings stories, opening new territory to explore in future books. I have always been interested in uncovering the history that's been lost over the years. The Indian Nations have a rich history, but many of the old stories are incomplete, losing their importance to modern society. Magnus's ability to uncover minute details and piecing them together reinforces the need to keep the past alive for future generations. It was fascinating to experience how the past had such a broad impact on present and future generations for Dane and the Native American Indians. It was wonderful to experience the growing feelings between Dane and Magnus as they opened their hearts and lives to each other. It's important to remember what Magnus learned, that trust could be the key that opens your life up to a love that could change you forever.
