Kevin's Alpha
Kevin's Alpha by Amber Kell is the second book in A Wizard's Touch series.
Kevin awakens to find himself in a strange bed until he remembers the incredible battle that his friend Jaynell won, defeating Dragonspawn, an evil wizard. Jaynell is not only a wizard, but is also mated to Thomas, a were-shifter, and through them, Kevin met their alpha, James, who is Thomas's brother. James knows that Kevin is his mate, but Kevin didn't ever think he would have a mate. Kevin watched his father treating his mom terribly and never wanted to behave like that. Jay tells Kevin he should give himself a chance to experience what James and he could have. At school, Kevin learns from an acquaintance, and not a pleasant one, that the Senate is coming to investigate Jay's actions before Dragonspawn's death, and he tells Jay. Kevin doesn't think he's a very strong wizard, but with Jay's help, he calls his avatar, something he couldn't do with the help of the school professors. Just when things start to settle down, a young female wizard is found drained of her magic, and Jay is kidnapped from his mate in the pack house. Who is behind Jay's abduction and will they find him in time to prevent all-out war between shifters and wizards?
I can't imagine awakening to find myself in bed with a very possessive and dominant alpha bent on having his way with me. Kevin held up pretty well in the face of things and stood his ground with James when many people would never have dared. The bond between mates was fascinating to experience as Thomas almost lost control of his wolf in need to find its mate. It was inspiring how the gnomes that Jay freed were willing to stand up to help find him when he was missing. The many paranormal aspects of this story, be it gnomes, dragons or gargoyles, added to the depth of the story. It was great how this book began where the first story ended, continuing the lives of Jay and his friends.
