Darkness Undone
Brit Sidney Westerbrook aims to follow in his dying father's footsteps by becoming a league Bookkeeper for the talyan. So he ships off to Chicago to learn the ropes and hone his researching skills. Then he meets Aylce Carver, a rogue talya who turns his world upside down.

Alyce joins forces with Sidney and the rest of the Chicago talyan league to fight the evil that resides there...and in turn, the couple discovers a bond between them deeper than they ever could have imagined.

Darkness Undone is the fourth book in the Marked Souls series.

Jessa Slade continues her series of repentant demons battling evil. The talya seek flaws in souls to find their way in and possess unsuspecting humans, who unknowingly give their consent to do so. As no one is infallible, or perfect by any stretch of the imagination, that means that no one is safe from possession. Interestingly enough, angels can also possess a human...or rather, a human can "host" an angel, although whose soul could ever be pure enough to be chosen for that task is beyond me.

Sidney is certainly a break from other taylan, those alpha, menacing warriors who find love in their female talya mates. He's bookish, a reserved Brit with little to really recommend him. Alyce is a little batty, waifish and has lived a long time with her demon within, and yet, has never had anyone teach her what to do about that or how to properly "use" her demon. She just has these urges to battle "devils". One would think the demon itself would find a way to teach her as its goal is about repentance.

I'd have to say that Sid and Alyce are two of the oddest characters thus far in the series, which is probably why they're well-matched. But, they're not all that compelling as characters. Likeable, sure, but mesmerizing enough for fierce page-turning, not really. This story is well-written and blends into the series with the plot and all the familiar secondary characters, but this pair really didn't do much for me as a reader seeking to be invested in the hero and heroine.
