A Brush With Love

In one day, Ruth lost her job and in a freak accident she lost her ability to walk. Shortly thereafter, her boyfriend dumps her. Ruth has also lost her desire to paint. Ruth Moore is at the lowest point in her life the day her friend, Jennifer, rushes into Ruth's bedroom with a big announcement. Jennifer is moving Ruth in with her. Jennifer refuses to let Ruth stay at her mother's house any longer because all she does is lay in bed and sulk at her condition and take her mother's verbal abuse. That's not the Ruth she knows and loves, so it's time for a change. It's time to get the "old" Ruth back.

Mick Thomas was a successful architect working for his father's company. Mick has never been able to forgive himself for his past mistakes, so he quits his job, against his father's wishes, and moves away. Doing odd jobs for Mr. Jenkins at Jenkins General Store keeps him busy and his mind off of what he has done in the past. He loves to work with engines, even though he would never be able to get behind the wheel of a car again.

Through a twist of fate, Ruth and Mick find each other. He is the best looking man she has ever seen in her life and he is mesmerized by this little sprite of a woman. Mick is the only one that has been able to bring back Ruth's desire to paint. While posing for her, their friendship grows and love starts to bloom. There is a problem though, a secret that lingers between them, always there and threatening their happiness. When the secret is exposed, will forgiveness be easy? Can love survive?

A Brush With Love is a story that this reviewer can't rave enough about. Jo Barrett pulls you into this world of suffering souls destined for each other from the first page and will keep you thinking about these characters long after the book is finished. A Brush With Love is heartbreaking and at the same time heartwarming. It's a true to life tale that shows you love can happen when you least expect it. Your heart breaks for these characters at the suffering and guilt each has put themselves through. When the secret is revealed, you hope that in the end the strength to forgive will be found. Jo Barrett has done an exceptional job with this story. A Brush With Love is for the keeper shelf. Highly recommended!
