Nights Of Fire
Nights Of Fire is set in Normandy, France, in June 1944, the final days of World War II. Gabrielle has rescued her husband's body, after the Gestapo dumped it outside a chateau. The Nazis had brutally beaten, tortured and interrogated him, to within an inch of his life. When Paul regains consciousness he realises that he has amnesia; he does not know who he is, and more importantly he doesn't recognize the woman who is tending to him, tending to his every need, even as his body recognizes and responds to its mate.
In a race against time, Paul must regain his memory; their lives depend upon it. Gabrielle's willing to use every means at her disposal, to help him to remember their life together and to ensure their safety.
I found Nights Of Fire to be a wonderful romantic, sensual story. Leonie Daniels deftly paints a colourful and authentic picture of life in France at the end of the war. She has created two strong, courageous, heroic and yet realistic main characters that the reader will instantly connect with. Whilst this is not the first amnesia storyline I've read, Leonie Daniels has used it to great effect; at no time did I find it trite or corny.
I devoured Nights Of Fire in one sitting, and I was sad to see the end of the book. I was so wrapped up in the characters and the storyline that I wanted it to never end. Having said that, the ending was very satisfying.
Please don't let the backdrop of World War II stop you from reading Nights Of Fire. Yes it's wartime, but war does not dominate the story; the focus of the story is Paul and Gabrielle, and their relationship.
Nights Of Fire was a joy to read and I eagerly look forward to reading more stories from Leonie Daniels. 4 Angels.
