Just when he thinks he'll make it home safely Tom's plane is shot down in enemy lines. Though he's not hurt, he feels that he might never get to see Gwen again. The possibility of not being there when his baby is born is too hard for him to imagine. He tries everything he can to get home hoping and wishing that he'd make in time.
When Tom went and joined the army she believed that with love Tom would come back home safely. That belief soon turns to anger and hurt when she learns his plane was shot down. Everybody around her says that there is no hope to go on with her life. She can't help but feel that he is still alive. Tom and Gwen have a connection, one that is too strong to just die down. With faith and love, she waits for his return hoping that it is soon. With a baby on the way, she does not look forward to going through it alone. She wants Tom and no one else but him and his love. Can he make it? Can her Christmas wish come true in time?
Book Three of the Out of Ashes series by Catherine Snodgrass ends in a story that speaks about true love and faith in one another. Tom has been set to go home to see his wife. He never thought his plane would get shot down or the possibility of never seeing Gwen again. His wife is expecting their first baby and cannot wait for her husband to come home at last. Just a couple days for Christmas and her biggest present to Tom is about come. Ms. Snodgrass has created a touching story about faith and love in My Only Wish. Two people so in love with one another and a future with one another is separated in World War II. Gwen never expected that he wouldn't make it only wishes that he makes it for good. All she wants is to see her husband one more time. This reviewer loved the book and rooted for Gwen's determination to never give up on faith and her wish to see her husband. Tom is a man every reader will fall in love with. He's persistent in seeing his wife and to be there for her when their baby comes into the world. Altogether, this book is worth keeping for this reviewer.
