Bad Boys in Black Tie
Lori Foster: Good with His Hands
Cassidy McClannahan knows exactly what she wants. She has a five year plan that includes marrying a man who wears suits to work and is comfortable in them, a "professional man"; a man who is the exact opposite of her best friend, Pete Watson. Her head knows this but lately she has had to remind her body of that fact more and more. It's a good thing Pete only sees her as a friend. Pete is not sure when it happened but lately he has been having a lot of sexual thoughts about his best friend. He knows that he doesn't fit the bill for her ideal man but he wouldn't mind keeping her occupied until her Mr. Perfect comes along. Too bad she only sees him as a friend. Friends to lovers is my favorite contemporary storyline and nobody does it better than Lori Foster. Believable characters, amusing dialogue and a very titillating misunderstanding help to make Bad Boys in Black Tie a definite keeper.
Erin McCarthy: Miss Extreme Congeniality
FBI Agent CJ White hates her co-worker Wyatt Maddock. She hates everything about him from his "wolfish charm" to his custom made designer suits, but the thing that she really hates is the fact that she wants him. Wyatt has no idea why CJ is so hostile towards him. He has tried every weapon in his arsenal to charm her, all to no avail. When he discovers that she wants him as much as he wants her he is shocked, but determined to have her. He proposes to her that if she will spend one night in his arms he will request a transfer and get out of her life. Wyatt quickly realizes that he wants much more than one night, but one night is all that CJ has to give and she is certain that he will change his mind once he learns her secret. Erin McCarthy has a style and sense of humor that is absolutely wicked and I absolutely LOVE it. One minute you think the book is going to self combust and the next you are spewing coke all over it thanks to an outrageous comment or thought of a character. I don't know if Ms. McCarthy can top Miss Extreme Congeniality but I can't wait for her next book so I can find out.
Morgan Leigh: Last Call
The minute that Fletcher Graham sees Tess Braeden he feels a zing of attraction and lust that he hasn't felt for anyone in a very long time. The last person who caught his attention as quickly as Tess was his ex-wife and that fact is enough to make him apply the brakes. His best friend assures him that Tess is nothing like his ex but also warns him that she could be trouble for him and advises him not to get too close too fast. Tess feels the same zinging attraction as Fletcher and since she plans to settle permanently in this charming small town she does not hesitate when he approaches her. They find themselves caught up in a passion that is much more intense than either has ever felt but Fletcher has not been completely honest with her. He hopes that by the time she learns the truth she will be so in love that she will forgive him. Ms. Leigh packs a lot of plot into such a short story. In just a few chapters secrets are revealed and dreams are realized. This is only the second story that I have read by Ms. Leigh and I'm definitely looking forward to more from her in the future.
Bad Boys in Black Tie is the most recent installment in the "bad boy" line of anthologies from Brava. I have read and enjoyed all of the books to date and this one proves that no matter how you dress them, bad boys will always be bad boys and as Ms. Foster, Ms. McCarthy and Ms. Leigh show that is a very good thing.
