Heaven's Blue
Samantha Lyons is a mosquito research scientist who is in desperate need of an assistant. Her last assistant couldn't stand the loneliness and boredom of the science lab beside a salt marsh on the outskirts of the little backwater town of Clam Creek, New Jersey and took off. If Samantha doesn't complete her research on the effects of a new pesticide on the salt marsh mosquito as the final application of her doctoral thesis, she will lose her home at Field Station Number Thirty-Seven. This is the first real home that has ever been truly hers.
David Halpern is on the run with his son James. David's ex-wife and mother of James has custody, but David discovered that Linda had been abusing James. Kidnapping his own son seemed to be the only way to get James out of Linda's care. Out of cash and afraid to use his credit cards for fear of being traced, David takes the job that Samantha offers. It is only a temporary job that doesn't pay well, but it comes with room and board and might provide a safe place to hide out while he thinks of a plan of what to do next. But there are a few things that David didn't count on. Samantha is very spiritual and always seems to be cramming her faith down his and his son's throat. David lost his faith a long time ago. David grits his teeth as Samantha teaches James about God and Jesus. But even worse than that is the fact that David finds himself falling in love with Samantha. But can he trust her to keep his whereabouts a secret when she discovers that he is wanted for kidnapping his own son?
Penelope Marzec has scored a winner with this heartwarming tale of a father's love for his son. This book grabs the attention of the reader from the very first page and never lets it go. Heaven's Blue is a story of faith and sacrifice. The author has penned some of the most endearing characters this reviewer has had the privilege of reading about in a long time. David will do anything to keep his son safe including giving up all the success he has worked so hard for. Samantha is a very realistic character with human faults. She knows that David is on the run, but she needs his help to finish her project and save her home so she keeps quiet. But another trait she possesses unfortunately is not common these days. As a devout Christian, she does her best to guide James to Christ even though David isn't happy about it. She doesn't let his grumbling prevent her from expressing her beliefs and faith. Heaven's Blue is a very impressive and enthralling story that is highly recommended and is very deserving of this five angel rating.
