The Secret Adversary
Tuppence and Tommy are old chums trying to find a way to make money in poor post war England in the early 1900's. Jobs were hard to come by and harder to keep. Tuppence comes up with a grand idea. They would go into business together. Their business would be called The Young Adventurers, Ltd. The idea of the business was to do whatever anyone paid them enough to do. So simple, or so it seemed at the time. But soon they discover that they have bitten off more than they bargained for. Asked by a government man to help find out what happened to a missing young woman reported to be carrying secret and potentially explosive papers, the young adventurers soon find themselves in the middle of a huge mystery. Someone close to them is the mysterious Mr Brown, the leader of an organization hoping to use these papers to bring down England, but no one knows just who Mr Brown is. Their first adventure could very easily become their last! People around them are being murdered or disappearing at an alarming rate. The only thing that stands between them and certain death is their wits and charm...and maybe just a little luck!
This classic story is for the young and the old alike. Originally published in 1922, The Secret Adversary is a true Agatha Christie tale. It's bursting full of twists and turns, and keeps the readers on the edge of their seats, making this story a delight to read. This book is a page-turner and doesn't have a dull moment. Just when you think that all hope is lost, Ms Christie manages to pen our hero and heroine out of their tight spot, with great imagination. These characters are heart warming and endearing to the end. They manage to tackle every danger that their foes put in their way. The secondary characters are just as interesting and captivating to the imagination as the main characters are. Long lost cousins, secret identities and menacing adversaries are just a hint of what the reader will find in The Secret Adversary. This is a keeper for all ages and has passed the test of time. Highly recommended.
