Price of Fame
Ashley Ladd's novel, Price of Fame, is the story of a good girl gone wild. Wenefred "Wendy" Applegate is an ordinary woman by day, but at night she is the famous rock star Skye Blue, member of the rock-and-roll band Storm. But her successful career has to be put on hold when Wendy is called home to take care of her mother after she was injured in a car crash. Once home, old resentments and old loves come back to haunt her. Wendy was always the Plain Jane in her family. It was her younger sister Angel who was considered the real beauty, and Wendy always thought she was second best in her mother's eyes. She also believes that Dr. Trace Cooper, her mother's physician and long time family friend, is in love with Angel. Little does Trace know how much Wendy loves him.
Trace is shocked at the transformation of Wendy. He has always thought of her as the girl next door, but when she comes home to help out her mother, he finds a new side to Wendy, a side that he is very attracted to. Gone is the quiet, plain girl, and in her place is a beautiful and spirited woman. Unfortunately Trace also has a crush on Wendy's alter-ego, Skye Blue. He attends one of her concerts and they make love, but he doesn't know that it is Wendy. As Wendy and Trace learn about each other and start to fall in love, Wendy has to put up with a new rival, not her sister Angel, but herself!
Price of Fame is a great story with a very interesting plot. It was wonderful to see Wendy come home and win the man of her dreams, and Trace's love and appreciation for Wendy was evident right from the beginning of the story. They had their skirmishes, but the deep attraction, lust, and love was unmistakable. Trace was a great hero, very handsome, smart, and caring, but it was Wendy who was the heart of this story. Her struggle to define herself and to learn to love her real image, not her rock star image, was the best part of the story. This story had plenty of spicy erotic love scenes, lots of great family moments, and a deep and abiding love between Trace and Wendy. Kudos to Ashley Ladd for a wonderful story.
