Linda Andrews's The Christmas Village is an enchanting look at a town where Christmas happens every day of the year for its residents. Cade Dugan is a resident of Holly, where he creates villages and figurines to sell. He started creating figurines that resemble the town's residents, and has become somewhat of a matchmaker, creating the perfect mate for some of the residents. He finally decides to create his own perfect woman, but realizes too late that this was a bad choice as Holly has been invaded with women wearing blue coats and purple scarves, replicas of Cade's figurine.
Egypt Starr is also a matchmaker. She dates men, but they always end up falling in love with her friends or, much worse, her sister. On the eve of her sister's wedding, Egypt is traveling to the wedding when she winds up in Holly with a broken down car. Instead of a knight in shining armor rescuing her, she gets a man who drives a sleigh with two reindeer attached. Cade comes upon her as she is stuck in the snow and rescues her, but believes that she was attempting to catch him since Egypt just happens to be wearing a blue coat and a purple scarf. Egypt is stuck in town when she finds out Holly doesn't have a mechanic, only a tinker who just happens to be Cade. When Cade realizes that Holly doesn't even know about the blue coat conspiracy and sees his mistake, he starts showing her the true meaning of Christmas: love. Sparks fly as the hero and heroine match wits and fall in love in a most magical town.
The Christmas Village is filled with lots of Christmas lore that keeps the reader enchanted and interested in the tiny town of Holly. Egypt and Cade are great characters, very interesting and three-dimensional. Just like any couple, there are issues that they have to resolve together in order to make their relationship grow. A wonderful secondary cast including Cade's parents, siblings, and dog; Egypt's pets and the town folks of Holly bring out the humor of the story, and help the main characters fall in love. The Christmas Village is the perfect story to cozy up with not only during the holiday season, also all year round, as its message of love and laughter reaches out to any reader.Reviewed by: Sarah W
