Power Play
Power Play is an erotic adventure set in the fast paced hockey world of Texas. Kristen DuChein and Brian Corrigan grew up with each other in Ottawa Canada, where Kristen's father helped train Brian to be a great hockey player. When Brian makes it into the minor league, his opportunity is cut short when a brutal hit by Marty Pellin ruins Brian's knee and his chance at hockey stardom forever. Kristen goes on to compete in the Olympics in Nagano, where she receives a gold medal. After coming back, Kristen marries Marty and helps him run the Panthers minor league hockey team, which is owned by Marty and Brian.
When Marty dies, Kristen becomes co-owner of the Panthers. She goes to Brian for help in keeping the Panthers in Texas because he has plans to move them to Sacramento. Instead of putting up money or other collateral for the team, Brian suggests that Kristen marry him. Kristen balks, as she thinks she is selling herself to Brian, and is ready to walk out when Brian makes clear the terms of their supposed marriage. If she marries him and the Panthers win the prestigious Emerald Cup, they will get their marriage annulled, no harm no foul. If the Panthers don't win, Kristen will remain married to Brian for the foreseeable future. Kristen agrees to the business proposition, and the two get married, after Brian inspects the "goods" so to speak, forcing Kristen to undress in front of him.
Brian seems like an arrogant jerk at the start of Power Play, but the reader quickly comes to see the pain and suffering he is experiencing by not being able to participate in hockey. He has to sit on the sidelines and watch others live out his dream. Brian admires and respects Kristen, and has held a deep love for her since skating with her in Ottawa years ago. Kristen is deeply attracted to Brian, against her will at times. But she quickly falls in love with her dead husband's archenemy, learning to understand his fears and coming to love him for the difficult things he has had to deal with.
The reader should know this book contains some very light S&M themes, nothing violent or cruel, but there is a very big theme of control and submission being played out in Power Play. The sexual language in this story is also very raw and at times guttural, so if that is unappealing to you, this probably isn't the book for you.
On the other hand, if you like your characters honest, willing to expose their deepest emotions for love, and the exciting setting of the minor league hockey world, Power Play is the story for you. Brian and Kristen grow as characters as different levels of their emotions and thoughts are revealed. This a very moving and complex love story that takes the idea of pleasure to the next level with spicy and erotic love making scenes that make the pages sizzle. Erica DeQuaya's story is an intriguing look at the Texas hockey world and the power and money that surrounds it.
