Summer Replacement
Fifteen-year-old Cathy Price is horrified that she has to spend her summer break in Chatfield, the most boring city in the world. But things start to look up when she arrives in Chatfield and discovers, to her amazement, that her crush, Dan Stedman, is also stuck in Chatfield for the summer, stocking shelves at the local grocery store. What started out as the summer vacation from hell has turned into the greatest ever, because she now has the chance to get to know Dan and hopefully, get a kiss or two from the cute high school senior. When Cathy starts baby-sitting his younger sister Cecilia, she gets the chance to hang out with him even more, becoming closer and closer. They even pretend to be boyfriend and girlfriend so Dan doesn't have to put up with all the flirting from the younger residents of Chatfield. Things are going along great until Dan's sort of girlfriend Lisa Kendall shows up. Cathy doesn't know what to do, will she be able to make Dan fall in love with her or will he be swayed by the outward attributes of the curvy Lisa?
Summer Replacement is a great teen love story: there is lots of angst, lots of funny moments, some steamy kisses, and a great heroine. Ann Herrick does a wonderful job of portraying Cathy's teenage crush, making it seem very realistic. Cathy goes through the emotions of any growing teenage girl, and Dan proves to be a true hero, no matter what Cathy may think to the contrary. He enjoys spending time with her and doesn't want to see their time together end, but will he be able to convince Cathy of this? Summer Replacement is a sunny romance fit for the beach and will make you want to remember your own first crush.
