Bolden is one of the first inter-species offspring of Earth humans and Miratan lions. After being stranded for two years on a primitive planet, he captures an exotic beauty named Cené, a servant of the planet's goddess. When the goddess senses his desire for Cene, she makes a deal with him. If Bolden physically pleasures Cene, so that the goddess can experience passion again by entering Cene's body, she will see that he returns to Earth. The only catch is that he can't take Cene's virginity. However, when pleasuring the goddess-inhabited woman, he begins to fall in love. The question is, how can he know for sure its Cene herself or the goddess he loves?
The premise of this story is unique. My first impression was that it was going to be too "new-age-y" for my taste, but Ms. Douglas' characters are so well drawn that they couldn't help but grow on me. The goddess started out being an ominous presence, developing into a accessible character that was truly lonely. The love scenes are hot, hot, hot and Bolden is yet another of Ms. Douglas' very sexy Miratans.
Although Bold Journey is the fifth in Kate Douglas' Starquest series, it stands alone so well that it would be a great place to start the series. It's a sensual story that will satisfy any reader looking for a terrific sci-fi erotic romance.Reviewed by: Shelley
