Dream Weaver
Gwen Emrys is a teacher at the local high school. She has been plagued with senseless dreams and it has cost her many nights of sleep. Her dreams' constant has been a cabin in the woods with a man. She spies a similar cabin in a pamphlet and decides to visit it. During her visit, she spies a tree with the initials CN carved into it and when she touches it she falls unconscious. Upon waking, she is no longer in the present but in 1762. She meets Christian Norgarrd and her world is changed forever.
Christian is a doctor and has hopes of bettering his world with his skills. He is a man who is strangely affected by this woman. He is quick to grow attached to her and tries to make sense of her strange ramblings. Gwen is a woman out of place and time. Her 21st century ideas and knowledge helps and hinders her. She tries to put her knowledge to good use. Christian is not so sure of her claim that she comes from the future -- all he knows is he wants her to stay with him forever. These two characters make their way toward each other and try to forge a life together. Christian is a strong and fairly understanding man. Although Gwen does push his understanding to the very limits, his compassion is shown through his treatment of Gwen. Gwen tries her best to fit in and finding love makes the transition easier.
Ms. Martin has accurately depicted the hardships of the mid-18th century when many diseases where rampant and life in general was quite difficult. The protagonists are well developed and the reader can empathize with Gwen's disbelief of where she is as well as Christian's amazement of Gwen's words and actions. The two characters are the focal point of the book and the reader gets to know them well. Ms. Martin has written a compelling story that will provide enjoyment to all those who love time travel romances.
