Written in the Stars
Reina is an untrained female mage. She was the result of her mother's coupling with a Great Mage. She has inherited powers from her father but can't control it. Thrown out of her grandfather's house, she and her brother, Rosher makes their way to the King. Upon seeing her powers, the King claims her for his son, Prince Karris. The time draws near for the final mating; Riena yearns to be free. Riena is planning to run away from her future mate. She impersonates a man in order to get away. Rosher and Riena make their escape. Karris along with his guard, Lena follows closely behind. What will happen when they meet?
Karris is the antithesis of his father. He wants Riena to come to him because she wants to. He loves her and seeks to protect her from his father's wrath. There are rules regarding the mages, and his father has broken a few. He intends to right the wrongs when he is in power. Karris is a wonderfully drawn hero. He shows his true colors during his travel with Riena. She is a woman who suffered a terrible childhood but she has come through it with flying colors. Reina is bright, strong, kind and loyal. There is an intense chemistry between them; even though she is pretending to be a male; it doesn't prevent the escalating erotic tension. Reina is devoted to her brother and the feelings are mutual. Although the book primarily focuses on Riena and Karris, the budding romance between Rosher and Lena was fascinating to watch. The cat and mouse game these two play were extremely entertaining.
The author has done a fine job of populating her world with well drawn characters. The plotline is entertaining and the pacing is steady. The author has included a glossary at the beginning of the book, which helps the reader acquaint themselves with this world. This book, where mages reign supreme and magic rules the land; draws the reader in and keeps the reader's attention.
