Once A Bride
Eloise Hamelin's fiancé Hugh passed away on the steps of the church prior to their marriage. Now his half-brother, Roland has come to take charge of her father's keep. Her father has been accused of treason and is in hiding hoping to prove his innocence. Eloise and Roland butt heads but a strange thing is happening: they are starting to like one another. Now, they themselves in the middle of a conspiracy and must work together to clear her father's name.
Eloise is a strong, loyal and stubborn woman. She does her duty and all that is asked of her. Roland is a strong and gentle knight. He is loyal to his King and tries to follow the King's edict. However, Eloise proves to be a challenge. These two characters play off each other. Their dialogue is crisp and witty. They enjoy the verbal exchanges while the physical attraction grows. The reader watches as they fall in love and in lust with each other. All the while, a mystery needs to be solved and these two take up the challenge. Her father needs to be proven innocent if they are to have a future together.
The author has written another superb historical romance. She has infused it with memorable characters, action and a touch of humor. The descriptions of the medieval setting were vivid almost as if you are there taking in everything. All of this draws the reader into the story. This was a highly enjoyable read and look forward to the next book from Ms. Anton.
