Rules of Engagement

Viola and Letitia Featherton are determined that their grandnieces, Eliza and Grace will not end up on the shelf as they had. They will assist them in finding husbands with the help of the "Rules of Engagement" book. This book is not a primer for seeking spouses however, it is a book of military stratagems. Eliza and Grace gallantly agree to go ahead with their plans since they did not want to hurt their aunts' feelings. Eliza has her own reasons for not wanting to marry but her aunts have chosen Magnus MacKinnon as her future husband.

Eliza is determined to be a painter. Her mother had to put aside her aspirations when she married and she doesn't want that to happen. She is a very intelligent and sensual woman. Magnus is a man who needs a rich bride. He is strongly attracted to Eliza. He is the ideal hero; strong, sensitive and intelligent. These two characters are equals and nicely matched. They are well drawn and the reader has a sense of who they are. However, it is Viola and Letitia who are the stars. These two old ladies are wonderful. The author has painted them so vividly that the reader can picture them. They steal the spotlight whenever they appear on the pages.

This was an absolutely entertaining romance. The author has woven a complex tale with memorable characters. It was evenly paced and built to a happily ever after ending for everybody. If you enjoy historical romances, give this new author a try! This reader can't wait to read the next book from this author where the Featherton twins will make a reappearance.
