In this story, the reader is treated to not only one, but two stories in the ongoing Reaper series. The stories of two superior Reapers, Kamerone Cree and Khiershon Cree.

DarkWind opens with Caitlin, a Healer on a medic ship, receiving a distress signal from a planet that should have no human life. As Caitlin and her crew investigate, they find a badly tortured, near death Khiershon Cree. Cree is unconscious, barely clinging to life and Caitlin is honor bound to do whatever she must to save his life. Upon learning of Cree’s Reaper status, Caitlin is now terrified of the parasite living within Cree’s body; yet oddly, she is drawn to him. When her newest patient awakens and tells her she was able to find him only because she is his life mate, terrified doesn’t begin to explain how Caitlin feels. Still, she is drawn to him and finds herself falling for him. Caitlin’s heart urges her to believe in this man, to trust in him. Caitlin soon finds herself married to Cree and embarking on a mission with him to save the other Reapers that are being held captive and tortured.

In the second part of DarkWind you find that Kamerone Cree is very bored and his wife, Bridget is extremely displeased with him. To top it all off, he’s being followed, probably by an Amazeen bounty hunter. Cree’s situation looks pretty bleak, and then proceeds to go from bad to worse. The Amazeens have tracked him down; he either willingly goes with them or they will kill Bridget. Although estranged from his wife, he loves her with his heart and soul and readily makes the sacrifice. Now back in Amazeen hands, his fate is certain death. The parasite that lives in him won’t allow that to happen. Cree’s love for Bridget and their son won’t allow him to give up. No matter what he must face, no matter what he has to do, he fill find his way back to his wife and his son.

Once again, Charlotte Boyett-Compo, shows us why she is considered a must read author. DarkWind is positively remarkable! In DarkWind, Charlotte Boyett-Compo offers us the story of Khiershon Cree and Caitlin and also Kamerone Cree and Bridget. Reapers are notorious for having suffered through unspeakable agonies. Only when they find their mate, do they begin to find any amount of happiness. For Cree and Bridget, they are torn apart and the scenes in which it happens are heartbreaking. As Bridget learns why Cree acted the way that he did, her realizations are as equally heart wrenching. Ms. Boyett-Compo clearly demonstrates the devastation felt by Cree and Bridget so that readers are as similarly affected. For Khiershon Cree and Caitlin the intensity is the same, just in a different manner. For this Cree, he has just found his mate and is faced with the challenge of convincing her he is not a monster. Caitlin’s fear is not only understandable it’s completely reasonable. Although she knows Cree would never hurt her, she still fears the unknown. Ms. Boyett-Compo never falters in creating characters her readers can relate to and offering a story that you cannot put down. If you’re anything like me, the conclusion of DarkWind will have you sending an e-mail to Ms. Boyett-Compo at 3 in the morning, demanding the third book in the series. :-) Awesome story, 5 Angels!!!
