The Lady's Pirate
Hal Merritt met the man in black in a tavern anxious to hear what sort of
job he wanted to hire him for. Upon learning that he wanted him to kill Hal's sworn enemy's wife, Hal didn't know what to do. While hurting his enemy greatly had never been a problem, killing a woman out of cold blood might be. Accepting the job became a big problem when he met the redheaded beauty in her attempt to escape her home.
Elspeth March, the Countess Greymere, had to escape the brutality of her husband Richard March. After finally taking his cruelty for as long as she could, she decided to escape Sandgrove and go home to Greymere. In her escape to get away she runs into a savage, but he acts as no savage she has heard of. He comes to her rescue and saves her from the clutches of Richard then proceeds to see her safely to her home. On the trip, he tells her he was hired to kill her and that she is not safe.
After meeting her, Hal knows he cannot just walk away without protecting her from the man in black who is determined to see her dead. Then there is also the fact that Hal has seen Richard's brutality first hand and will not allow the Countess to come to any more harm by him. Can Elspeth trust the pirate and savage who has sworn revenge on her husband to protect her? Can Hal leave the Countess to her own devices with her husband? You must read The Lady's Pirate by Anne Manning to find out.
First off, Ladies, Hal Merritt is a hero to dream about. He is a “pirate” and a “savage”, but most of all he is a knight in shining armor. Anne Manning has definitely given her readers a man that will take your breath away. Elspeth is also a very delightful character. After her abuse she does not sit down and let life come and go, she is a true fighter. She is determined to get away from the cruelty of her husband and to not let the fact that someone is trying to murder her make her hide from the world. Elspeth also likes to experience life. She tends to be adventurous and likes to explore new things.
This book is definitely worth the price. Anne Manning is an author that will be added to this reviewer's must read list. The Lady's Pirate is a charming tale that fans of historical romance will not want to miss. This is a book of mystery, scandal, and love that will win any fan of romance's heart.
