The Curse of the Midnight Star : Intrigue
Remy Terreau, owner of soon to open Scarlet Oaks Manor plantation turned resort hotel, has some problems. Legendary curse induced nightmares and ghostly visions are keeping him up at night, and hotel troubles fill his waking hours. When a visit to a friend's restaurant produces a possible replacement for the chef he lost, he jumps at a chance to steal her away. Then he meets her and realizes her fabulous cooking is not the only reason he would like to have her around.
Gillian Martin has a secret she is trying to hide and when sexy Remy Terreau enters her kitchen insisting she needs to work for him she refuses. But Remy won't take no for an answer and Gillian finds herself giving in to a trial agreement. This decision puts Gillian right in the middle of danger because someone wants Remy out of business and will do anything and go through anyone to get him. Now Gillian must decide if it more important to protect her secret or Remy.
I did read The Discovery (first in the series) so I knew in advance of the curse and a bit about Remy. But even if I had not read the first offering in the series I would have enjoyed The Curse of the Midnight Star: Intrigue. It is well written with strong characters and a good plot. The author introduces enough history for this book to stand alone, but I would definitely recommend reading the series in order. I particularly liked Gillian, a strong determined woman and how the author brought about the story's ending. Keeping in mind this is part of a series and not all threads will be tied up at the close of book this is a great story and I will be in line to read the next in this series!
