Lady Gwen is the High Priestess of New Earth in the distant future. She’s ruled alone and well since her parents died when she was 19. While she is a ruler that prefers peace, she is also known to be tough when the occasion calls for it. When dragons of legend show up at her door wishing for protection, she can hardly believe what she is seeing. Their leader, Nathrac, tells her that they wish an alliance with her. She doesn’t really see a problem with that, but they also want her to marry Tiegan, one of the human consorts that work with them to seal the alliance. Even though the man turns her on, she doesn’t want to go that far. Or does she?

This is a short story that manages to capture your attention and make you feel like you are a part of Lady Gwen’s world. Told from Lady Gwen’s point of view, it’s got a snappy dialog and is sometimes funny, sometimes sad. I liked Lady Gwen; she was an interesting and fun character who had a lot of common sense. She lusts after Tiegan from the first, but doesn’t fall at his feet. Tiegan isn’t the main character of the book, so he doesn’t get a whole lot of personality here, but Lady Gwen more than makes up for it. The descriptions are vivid and pull you into New Earth’s world. Definitely worth the time to read, I would recommend this to anyone who likes futuristic books with a strong female character.
