The Discovery
Three long and torturous years ago FBI Agents Lynsee Frost and Jack Navarre spent one incredibly hot night in each other’s arms. Thanks to a promotion that soon made Jack Lynsee’s boss the night was never repeated or referred to in any way, even though they both thought of it every time they looked at each other.
Jack and Lynsee head into the middle of the Louisiana Bayou to investigate a missing person’s case that seems to have turned into murder. As both are experienced agents, they expect some resistance from the locals, especially in a place where legends and superstition abound. They are even prepared for the tension that comes from being in close proximity to each other but absolutely nothing prepares them for the other things that they encounter.
Voices in the wind, men who leave no footprints, images, dreams and a gravesite that is one hundred years older than the one for which they are currently searching, soon have Jack and Lynsee convinced that the legends surrounding Scarlet Oak Manor may be more than legend. Neither believes in the supernatural but as it becomes apparent that something very strange is happening at the manor and that it has no logical explanation they are forced to and look at things not so logically.
Riveting. Spellbinding. Mesmerizing. Suspenseful. Scorching. I would have to buy a bigger and better Thesaurus in order to fully describe The Discovery. Ms. Warren creates a world that is so vivid and believable it is easy to imagine the sounds of the Bayou and feel the chill and stillness in the air when . . . oops can’t tell that part. I almost didn’t read this story because I was afraid that the paranormal and suspense elements would overshadow the romance. I was wrong. The romance is just as riveting and thrilling as the paranormal and suspense elements. Jack and Lynsee are two strong and compelling characters. They fought their attraction for three years and Ms. Warren brings out every bit of the emotion that they experienced during those three years.
This story does a wonderful job of kicking off the series “The Curse of the Midnight Star” and has ensured that I will make sure that I get the remainder of the series immediately upon release.
