Hearts on Fire
Accepting the faults of your close friends is easy – the hard part is coming to terms with your own.
Three middle age widows have very different lives and very different views on relationships. Their common ground is the enjoyment of one another’s company and the shared belief that no man can replace their deceased husbands. Josephine Winslow is an attractive blond. She is more than satisfied with the regular attentions that she is receiving from her much younger gardener, Chandler. They enjoy each other’s bodies, but have no intention of any personal involvement. Romance writer, Emily Dirkson is content to refect on the memories of her husband. Emily imagines that her male friend, David is happy to continue with a friendship with no growth or intimacy. Both of the ladies are quite fond of Annabel Martin and regularly remind her that she needs to lose a little weight. Annabel enjoys indulging herself; she likes to wear sexy lingerie and sometimes has one too many delicious treats. She won’t give these up to please anyone else; she feels relaxed and happy just as she is.
Emily’s niece, Brianna arrives for a short break away from the city. Brianna is having a hard time adjusting to life without her cheating ex-fiancé. When she attracts the lusty attentions of a young man, she knows that she has found her soul mate. Sadly, Brianna later learns that he is not the man she thought him to be. Brianna’s shock causes the group of widows to pause and examine just how they actions are affecting the others in their lives.
Hearts on Fire provides a very true to life picture of the interaction of many women. The situations that they find themselves in can happen. Mingled through these difficult life lessons is quite a charming romance. When the women finally learn to accept their lives as they are, not as they believe them to be, some very positive changes occur. Be prepared for some spicy sex scenes. This reader found the writing style to be a little choppy, especially at the start. The course of true love was a tad too easy for the secondary characters. Quite an enjoyable and insightful afternoon read.
