Kingdom of Khal - Redeeming Davik
A highly erotic tale of love, lust, and betrayal. A man is torn between his need for revenge and his deep love of the woman who has betrayed him.
Prince Davik and his brother, Prince Warrik of Southern Khal, had always shared their women. Warrik was generously endowed and tended to be impatient, so Davik would rouse the ladies to a point where they could easily accommodate his brother. Their sexual games seem almost choreographed. With an almost uncanny ability, they could amuse themselves and take turns with a woman until each was exhausted by their own release. Warrik is proud of his newest catch, a woman who was trying to escape the city. He cannot wait to share her with his brother. Davik immediately knows that this one is different. She has scarring on her wrists, ankles, and back. Bondage terrifies her. Although she says that she is willing to share the brothers, sometimes it is as if she has left her own body, escaping to the darkness of her own mind. She will respond to Davik only. In very limited conversation, she reveals her name is Petra. Davik is becoming attached to Petra and resents always having to share her. Warrik can feel his younger brother's growing anguish, but is not willing to stop the game yet. This woman turns him on and he is the heir so he is in control.
Davik's instincts tell him that Petra is not all that she seems. She understands the Khal history and politics. There is an inner strength in her, inconsistent with her defeatist attitude. Unfortunately, he is so overwhelmed and distracted by the hot passion that they share that he does not investigate her past beyond what she has told him. Petra has much more than just inner strength. She had been jailed by Warrik's father as an adolescent and had lived through constant pain for 5 years. She has enormous courage and a strong sense of loyalty, willing to sacrifice herself for her causes. She had planned to use the young princes for hostages, but her plans were changed after she experienced their skilled attentions. She has come to love Davik and knows that she could never betray or endanger him.
The brothers are depicted as easy-going pleasure seekers. Although they are both capable warriors for Southern Krall, they prefer to be lovers not fighters. They share a bond of brotherly love borne of light-hearted camaraderie and some life-endangering experiences. Madison Hayes's fast-paced novel had this reader enthralled from the first chapter to the last. Some sizzling hot sex scenes and a slow unveiling of the character Petra was to become kept this reader intrigued. Well thought out plans quickly change the focus of the book from some heady eroticism to one of the character's dramatic fall from the heights of passion to the pits of despair. As this character discovers his own strengths and weaknesses he realizes that he has not only turned away, but also cruelly tormented the one pure soul that he could ever truly love. If you enjoy highly charged emotional erotic tales, do not miss Kingdom of Khal - Redeeming Davik!
