Two Journeys, One Path

Laura seems like the typical working girl. She has a nice job in which she earns a nice wage. The only thing unordinary in Laura’s life is the fact that she can communicate with Evelyn, her dead mother. Evelyn wants Laura settled in life. She has returned from the spirit realm in order to make sure that Laura finds the happiness she deserves. Laura decides to apply at a dating agency, but instead of listing her actual likes and dislikes, she lies in order to make herself sound more appealing to potential dates. Laura loves quiet nights at home sipping hot cocoa in front of a fire, but she knows most men are more interested in club hopping women.

Marco Massiello is Laura’s new boss from Italy. When Evelyn “accidentally” causes Marco to see Laura’s dating application, he is very excited, as the fiery and passionate Laura has captured his attention from the moment they met. He writes down all her likes and dislikes, not knowing that they are all lies. What ensues is a comedy of errors as Marco tries to get to know Laura by taking her out for fish and to see an opera, both things she detests. He doesn’t understand why she seems so unhappy on their date and decides he has to convince her that opposites do attract. All Marco wants is a good woman to love, someone who will want to spend time with him and take quiet, romantic walks. He is in fact Laura’s perfect man. If only she hadn’t lied…

When Marco’s ex-fiancée shows up in London, all hell breaks loose as she tries her hardest to destroy Marco and Laura’s happiness by convincing Laura that Marco has been lying to her. This was my only qualm about the story really. Though Laura professed to love Marco, she gave up on their relationship way too easily, forcing Marco to try to make things right. She really didn’t seem to trust him at all. Despite this weakness though, Laura did have many strengths as a heroine. She loved her mother completely, was able to accept her gift and continue to communicate with Evelyn, in spite of Evelyn’s death. Laura also had a quick wit and an open heart. Marco was an equally good character as he was willing to do anything to make Laura happy, even listen to her mother’s outrageous suggestions. They were definitely well matched. Overall though, this was a funny and romantic story to read. The addition of Laura’s paranormal abilities helped turn an ordinary romance into a humorous tale with some haunting characters. Their relationship progressed fast, but it was very believable. I could easily see them fall in love, and it didn’t seem like it was unreal. This was a sweet story that should make any romance fan happy as it has lots of humor, lots of romance, and a nice paranormal bent. I definitely recommend Two Journeys, One Path.
