Hathor Vincenti has traveled to London to assist her Aunt with her bed and breakfast. By mistake, she stumbles upon an unusual club and meets Lord Servaes. He appears to be performing and when he tries to control her mind, she is able to break away. They meet again in her Aunt’s garden and their mutual attraction deepens.

Servaes is a complex creature. Once he was a normal, handsome man, but he is now acting as an avenging angel preying on the criminals for their blood. Hathor brings forth emotions that he believed were long gone. The fact that he is unable to read her mind intrigues him. Hathor is a genuinely nice woman. She is attracted to the danger and sadness that swirls around Servaes. She is fairly adaptable and open minded as the world of the vampires is presented to her. Servaes and Hathor find love together, but how can they stay together if one is human and the other is not?

Ms. Pillow’s vampiric world is quite violent and gory. Her narrative is complex and thought provoking. She doesn’t hold back in her descriptions of what the vampires did to their victims. At times, this book read like a dark fantasy rather than a romance book. For this reader, we didn’t enjoy the graphic details. There are many secondary characters and they all serve their purpose of furthering the story along. Many of them were intriguing, especially Jiri, and they all have stories to tell. However, this is a love story at the central core and Ms. Pillow will wring many emotions from her readers as we watch Hathor and Sevaes’ relationship bloom.
