Red Cloak of Abandon is the first book in the new series by Shirl Anders. Affinity, the leader of the “Lady Rogues” is featured in this book. The Lady Rogues are a group of young ladies who don’t fit the mold. Affinity is such a woman. She is intrigued by Lord Lawrence (Law) Fabier, the Duke of St. Martin. He is also the “Benefactor” for the London prostitutes. Affinity tries to find out more about this man and she is not above breaking into his home and stealing his private journal. Affinity finds herself enthralled by the entries as she reads about his sexual past.

Affinity is an independent, strong and intelligent female. She is definitely not a simpering miss who is looking for a rich husband to support her. Law is a man atoning for his past actions. He comes across as a very sensitive and honorable man. Law is what every woman wants in a man. He wants his journal back but Affinity is teasing him with it. These two indulge in a cat and mouse game, which overheats into a full fledge affair. The author fully develops their characters and the reader can’t help but like them.

Red Cloak of Abandon is a terrific beginning to the “Lady Rogues” series. Ms. Anders has introduced two interesting and quite memorable characters. Their relationship is fraught with tension and yet; there is a meeting of the minds as they are well matched in every way. A word of warning to those who enjoy milder erotic books: Red Cloak of Abandon is intensely erotic and quite graphic in the descriptions. However, if you like your books on the wild side, then this one is right up your alley.
