Miranda is aboard a ship that will take her to her future husband. Bartered off to Sir Edward Thomas, a wealthy tea plantation owner in Ceylon, to pay her father's gambling debts; Miranda has resigned herself to her fate. Out of duty to her parents, she is prepared to be a dutiful wife in what she perceives will be a loveless, passionless union.

Handsome, muscular, tall and sun bronzed, William Harris captains the tea clipper on which Miranda will travel to Ceylon. Upon being introduced to Miranda, he feels much sympathy for her and her situation as well as stirrings of desire for the woman affianced to his employer.

First, I must say that I LOVED this story. I commend Ms. Hart on her ability to write a descriptive and vivid story with characters that readers will really care about. I was able to identify with Miranda and William's situations wholeheartedly. Miranda is torn between family responsibility and following her heart. William has been hurt in the past and seeks someone who will love him completely and unconditionally. My only wish is that I could've spent more time with Ms. Hart's characters. The love scenes are very tender and passionate (some left me nearly fanning myself) and made me hope anxiously that there would be a happy ending for these two.

Vivian Hart has written quite a story in The Maiden's Voyage and I am waiting eagerly for more.
