Hollie Davidson Interview

How long have you been writing seriously? What inspired you to take the plunge into the publishing world?
I have been writing for years but just kept them on disks. My friends would get so aggravated because I was able to write so quickly and I kept putting stories out. I currently have around fifty stories on disks. Actually another writer encouraged me to submit my writings. She asked to read a story and I let her. She, Lena Marie, told me to send it to Extasy and I did never expecting to be accepted.
How long did it take to find the right publisher for your works?
I had been reviewing books for quite some time and I liked Extasy authors so it did not take long to get my stories in and approved. I love Extasy. The whole group is like a family. They are always there to help you out and to give advice. The editors are great, Stef knows what she is talking about, Tina is a Godsend and I admire all the work Martine does. The authors are fantastic, talented and kind.
Bad Decisions is a contemporary. Do you prefer contemporary settings?
Definitely… I just enjoy writing what is real. I prefer a lighthearted storyline something a reader can believe to be true. Contemporaries are my favorite to write and read.
Your upcoming book A Willing Warrior is a paranormal. Will you be doing more paranormals in the future?
A Willing Warrior is really more time travel, contemporary mix. I love absolutely love Karen Marie Moning’s books on the highland warriors. I may try to write more, I still have six in editing so I am not doing much writing now.
Do you outline your stories or do you just write as you go?
Write as I go. You can read my characters by my moods. I sit down and it just flows. It really comes easy to me.
Dakota and Kelly form a unique relationship in Bad Decisions. How did it feel writing such a strong willed woman and her perfect match?
I love Kelly. She is everything I want to be. She does not take crap, she secretly wants this jerk because he is so sexy but she knows his type. I like my female characters to have attitude. Just like one of my shirts say ‘It’s not an attitude it’s the way I am.”
Do you feel as if the characters live with you as you write? Do they haunt your dreams?
I wish Dakota lived with me. (lol) They don’t really come in my dreams, well not any I can tell you about. Seriously I try to write what I think they will feel or how they will act. Each of them have a place in the story and each of them are alive to me.
Do you read often, and what do you like to read? Who are some of your favorite authors?
I read about three to four books a week. I like contemporaries, thrillers, gosh really I like pretty much everything. It’s hard to pick a certain genre because it depends on the writer whether or not they make me like what they are writing. Favorite authors: I love Karen Marie Moning she is just awesome. I like so many authors but the ones who I first started to review are Sahara Kelly, Brenna Lyons and Delphyne DeRouge. There is just so many I like.
Do you believe in ‘writer’s block’? If so, have you ever suffered from it?
Yes and no. I had a hard time on The Willing Warrior. It was my second story accepted and the last of six to get done.
How has being published changed your life, if at all?
It hasn’t. I am still the same person. I don’t think I am better then anyone. I actually think I am my own worse enemy. It’s a big pat on the back but then there are even some people who know how to ruin that too. I am just me.
Congratulations on the release of Bad Decisions by Extasy Books. Do you wish to share some teasers with the readers?
Dakota followed me into the bar. I was standing behind the bar when he walked up behind me and put his arms around me. He kissed my neck. I could feel his breath on my skin. I pulled away and got on top of the bar. I tore off my shirt. He stood there shocked. He started to kiss me. I didn’t respond. He put his hands on my breasts and I didn’t respond. He backed away. “What is the matter? Do you want me?”

I looked him in the face. “Just fuck me. I figure I might as well make it easy on you. So do it.” He looked oddly at me. “Fuck me, Dakota, do it now, and then leave. You want to make me yours to conquer me, well just do it. What are you waiting for? That's all you want, so if it takes me lying here, and getting it over with, I will. I just want you to leave me the hell alone after you get what you want.”

Dakota threw my shirt at me. “You are one cold bitch.”

I put on my shirt. “Well, guess who made me cold? A sick mother like you. I know your type, Dakota. You screw them all, then leave. Hell I might as well just fuck you, then at least I could get something out of it too. I am not like the rest of your groupies, Dakota. I happen to love my life and myself. I am not a whore.”
What books can we expect to see from you in the coming year?
I have Bad Decisions, The Willing Warrior, Hired Help, Shipwrecked, Forever Love, and The Compound.
Are you working on anything right now?
I have been doing a lot of work for Fallen Angel Reviews but I have High on the Hog on my back burner.
Where do you see your writing career five years from now?
I live day-to-day I don’t know if I have tomorrow. My writing is therapy, something I enjoy and love to do.
Any advice for aspiring authors?
Don’t let anyone bring you down. There are a lot of people out there who try to discourage you to make them look good. They are just not worth it.
