Today I am speaking with
Jayelle Drewry.
Hi
Jayelle! Welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews! It is good to have you with us today. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule. The readers would love to hear something about
Jayelle Drewry.
Jayelle, I must say on your love/hate things on your
about me, on your website, we share almost the same things.
Waking Annabel is receiving great reviews, congrats!
Thanks. Waking Annabel was the first story I ever wrote. Plus, Jason is my favorite hero to date.
Why don’t we begin by telling us something about
Jayelle Drewry?
I have written four stories, two published, two under contract. My writing career started at my mother’s and husband’s insistence. Without them I would still be telling them how I would write a story rather than writing them.
Here’s a strange fact about Jayelle. I have read romances since middle school yet I didn’t discovered the more “sensual” romances until a year or two ago. Oddly enough, the flowery language of a sweet romance embarrasses me while the more explicit language doesn’t bother me in the least.
Of all things you have accomplished, is there one accomplishment you are most proud?
I’m proud of both stories that I have written, The Other Half and Waking Annabel. Waking Annabel is the first story I ever wrote. The Other Half is my first paranormal. Both have received some great reviews, and I’ve sent snippets to everyone, friends and family. I can’t get over the fact that I’m the one who wrote a story and that other people like it. It’s a Sally Fields’ moment – “You like me…you really like me.” Woohoo!
Can you tell us a little about your other upcoming works?
I have just finished the sequel to my paranormal shapeshifter, The Other Half and sent it in to my editor. Entitled The Outcasts, it’s Remy’s story. Abandoned by his mother at birth and growing up outside pack society, Remy Silva isn’t looking for a mate. He doesn’t want the emotion ties that a mate would force on him. Jane Lyke rejected one mate and almost paid for it with her life. Vowing to live the rest of her life as an outcast, she keeps all males at a distance. Both prefer to be outcasts, yet they find they can’t resist one another.
I also have a second work contracted with Phaze. It’s a contemporary entitled Second Chances. After losing his wife, Logan has vowed never to give his heart again. But finds himself drawn to Amber, the director of the daycare center his daughter attends. Amber’s husband abandoned her after she had their son. He couldn’t adjust to Amber being a wife and a mother. Second Chances is the story of Logan and Amber getting a second chance at love.
Do you outline your stories or do you just write as you go?
I write as I go. I have tried to outline only to find the outline was too organized and left me no room to move or be creative. It’s my fault. I’m the kind of person, if I’ve written it down I have to do it (I love lists).
Do your characters come alive and become a part of your life as you write? Have they ever haunted your dreams?
Oh yeah. I talk to my characters all the way to work and all the way home. Sometimes I talk to them in my sleep. Thankfully I don’t talk to them in front of others.
If you could be invisible for one hour, what would you do and where would you go?
Jump in the shower with Johnny Depp! The man is HOT HOT HOT! I’ve been a fan since 21 Jump Street.
We all know that everyone needs to take a break, even when doing something they love, how do you like to spend your time away from writing?
Reading in the bathtub! I love a hot bath. I could lounge for hours in the bath. If it’s summer put me beside the pool or the ocean. I love the heat and I love the water.
Plus I take Tae Kwon Do. I have never been one for exercise, I love laying around to much. But I love TKD. I haven’t tested for my black belt yet. Eventually I’ll find the time. By the way my instructor is Master James. In The Outcasts, Jane takes TKD and her instructor’s name is Master James.
Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?
Write what you like. If you don’t like it your voice will reflect it.
What would you like to accomplish with your writing career?
I want to be the writer people buy without reading the blurb. I want a reader to say “Hey that’s a Jayelle Drewry, it’s gotta be good.” I want to entertain.
Do you have a website other than
http://www.jldrewry.blogspot.com/ that you would like to share with your readers?
Yeah, I now have a website http://www.jayelledrewry.com/. My husband and a friend put it up for me. Anyone who goes there can read a short story of mine, Written in the Stars. It’s about 11,000 words, so it’s short but not so sweet.
Just for Fun:
What is your favorite candy?
Sweet tarts!
A place you would love to visit?
Australia
Anything else you would like to share with your readers?
Yeah I’m going to RT. The Other Half will be in print, so readers need to come by and get a signed copy. Or just drop by and say hi.
Plus I have a box of Hopeless Romantic t-shirts. Email me with your size and address and I’ll send you one. I hand ‘em out ‘til they’re gone.
Thank you so much for spending the day with us,
Jayelle. Anyone interested in reading more about
Jayelle and her remarkable books, please visit her website to read more about her exciting works. It has been a delight
Jayelle, and I wish you the best with your writing.
