Today I'd like to welcome
Diana Castilleja to Fallen Angel Reviews. Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions for us today
Diana.
To start, could you tell readers a little bit about your current release,
September Heat?
September Heat is my sophomore release, a Romantic/Suspense. The main character is a model who is chased out of New York because of a stalker problem. What ensues is a wild chase through some of Las Vegas' finest hotels.
In your opinion, what are the three most essential ingredients of an excellent romance novel?
For me, I would say connecting on either an emotional level or a reactionary level with the characters is very important. Beyond that, experiencing empathy for that scene, the exact moment of realization, and while I don't have to have an HEA, I do enjoy them more.
What would you consider your most interesting quirk?
I'm really pretty boring. Even my husband says so. :) And after a half an hour discussion, the most we could come up with was apparently I'm a bit of a packrat.. :)
Can you tell readers about your first release
Ice Cream In The Snow?
Ice Cream In The Snow was actually one of the first few that were ever completed, I want to say in the first 2-3 completed pieces that I finished . My aim at the time was not publication, but just having a hobby that I could immerse myself into and forget that I was home alone with a baby and no life. As my knowledge grew, I joined a crit group and sent Ice Cream through the wringer with them. That was when I began to think I might have something others would enjoy.
What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
That I enjoyed it as much as I did. And that I could let my imagination go and wander. I love finding out what my characters have coming up next!
When did you start writing romances? How long did it take you to get published?
I really started writing out of boredom in the early 90's, but the husband of the day couldn't hack the competition of a typewriter. :) I picked it back up in the fall of 2004, finishing one of those that were started so long ago and just haven't stopped.
As for how long it took, once I put my heart into it, and got my act together, it took very little time. I began shopping Ice Cream this year and it was picked up in March by Forbidden Publications.
Can you tell us more about
A Drop of Blood that you just finished?
How did you guys found out about that one!? LOL Oy.. Okay, it wasn't that big of a secret. Let me see... This is Diego Viteri's story. My first paranormal attempt which was my NaNo from 2005. I've been a voracious reader of paranormals for ages and wanted to take a chance on it. It's a blend of vampire, a subtle sensual flair, and a few surprises. I'm hoping to build it into a series.
Since everybody needs a break, even when doing something they love, how do you like to spend your time away from writing?
If I'm not writing or doing something with the intention of writing, I crochet or do some crafts. I do read, just not as much as I once had the opportunity for. Otherwise, I'm asleep...
What can your fans look forward to in the next twelve months from you?
Well, I'm hoping to have some good news in the near future, either for a new release on a contemporary, or something about A Drop Of Blood. I also have a four book series that is in a fine-tuning process right now, but hasn't been presented to anyone for consideration. And definitely some more Romantic Suspense.
What's one thing you would like your readers to know about you?
What I would really like for readers to know about me is that I'm really just a normal person who put myself out there. I'm a mom, a wife, and an author. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
Thank you for taking time to speak with me today
