Jess Dee Interview

Today I am speaking with the Dee-liciously Sexy Romance author Jess Dee.

Hi Jess, I saw that on your website and thought it was so sweet. Thanks for taking time out to talk to Fallen Angel Reviews today.
Hi Linda. It's really nice to be hear.

Let’s begin by telling us about your current release, Photo Opportunity.
Photo Opportunity is a light hearted, sexy romance about best friends falling in love.
It's my first book, and I'm still on such a high that it's been published! The book was released in July, and it's been given some great reviews, including...Five Angels from FAR!!! (That funny noise you're hearing is me doing the happy dance.)

This is the blurb:
Daniel Tanner’s through being loved like the proverbial brother. He intends to make his friend, Amy Morgan, blaze with the same desire he feels for her. Daniel has a plan: he’s about to initiate a series of escapades that will have Amy falling into his arms, and into his bed.
When her trusted buddy suddenly turns up the heat, Amy finds it impossible to resist his sexy advances. But she must! While Daniel may be charming and gorgeous, he’s also commitment phobic. If she trusts her heart to him, she’s sure he’ll leave it—and their friendship—shattered in a million pieces.

The book is available from Triskelion Publishing's Fever Line, and it has a heat level of Three Triskels (Ultra sensual romance)

What can your readers expect for the future?
In April of next year, I have a hot little novella coming out called Visiting Paradise. It's part of an anthology, put together by five of the Australian authors at Triskelion. The book is aptly called: Boys Down Under. We're all very excited about the anthology!

I've also completed the sequel to Photo Op, and am waiting to hear on that, and I'm working on a brand new romance now.

What does your workspace look like?
*Gulp* Do I have to be honest? It's a mess. Piles of papers stacked all over the place, empty tea cups, chocolate wrappers spilling from the bin, and kid's toys in every conceivable nook and cranny.

Can you tell us how long you have been writing?
I started writing seriously about three years ago - when I began Photo Opportunity. About ten years before that, I tried my hand at writing a romance, but the truth was, it was terrible! That manuscript is tightly tucked away in the bottom drawer!

Is it something that you have always desired?
Always! I loved the idea of writing a book, or specifically, a romance. Ever since I read my first Mills and Boons - all those decades ago - I've dreamed about writing one myself. Having a book published - well that was quite literally my dream come true.

Do you get along well with your editor?
My editor has been wonderful. Not only did she extend a personal invitation to me to submit Photo Op to Triskelion, she did a brilliant job on editing the book too.

Did you have to wait very long to hear that you had a contract?
About four weeks. And I swear, they were the longest weeks of my life. Felt more like four years!

Do you outline your stories or do you just write as you go?
I usually just write as I go, although I do have a very basic story line in my head before I start. With the novella, I had to submit a full synopsis before I'd even begun writing, so that was plotted out right from the beginning. I think I prefer to just write though, and see where the story takes me. My characters never fail to surprise me with their choices and decisions.

Do your characters come alive and become a part of your life as you write? Have they ever haunted your dreams?
Absolutely. They become my best friends. When something good happens to one of them, I laugh, when something bad happens, I cry. When I go out, I imagine them in the same place. Sometimes I even close my eyes, and I'm watching them talking, or fighting, or doing whatever it is they're doing.

We all know that everyone needs to take a break, even when doing something they love, how do you like to spend your time away from writing?
I have two little boys, so any free time I have is consumed by them. We're either at a park, feeding the birds; at the beach, digging holes large enough to swim in; visiting friends, or just running around like crazy...

Do you have any hobbies or pet peeves?
LOL! Between my children, my husband and my writing, I barely have time to breath. Hobbies are a distant memory from the past. Finding a couple of hours in a week to curl up with a good book is a very special treat for me.

My pet peeve...clothes washing. *Growl* Load after load of washing. It just never ends...

If you could go anywhere or do anything for a weekend, where would you go, and would you take anyone with you?
I'd go on a boat trip with my family to spot whales and dolphins. And if we could get to have a little swim with the dolphins...well that would be heaven!

For Fun: What is your favorite comfort food? Your favorite secret indulgence?
Do I have to choose a favorite? Truth is, if its got sugar in it, I love it. Of course chocolate is an all time favorite, and right now I'm going through a big ice cream phase, with cinnamon donuts running a close second. Did I mention butter cake with thick, sweet icing? Or homemade fudge? Ooh, what about banana smoothies? (Darn, excuse me for a minute while I just go and raid my pantry.)

Is there anything else that you would love to share with your readers?
Just that I hope they enjoy reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them.

Jess, thank you for spending time with us today.
Thank you for having me. I've really enjoyed answering all your questions.
