Today I am speaking with
Raine Delight.
Hi
Raine, what a lovely name! And welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews! It is a joy to have you with us today. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions.
Thank you for having me Linda and I am thrilled to be here. Looking forward to the questions and sharing my new series with you all.
Why not start off telling the readers about
Raine Delight?
Raine is a pseudonym of a self-professed bookaholic. I have loved to read since I could remember, getting lost in the world of romance, stories of long ago and just finding new friends to fill my time. Soon I found I could review them and got introduced to the world of E Publishing. It was a heady experience to say the least. I am a single mother of 2 kids ages 5 and 7, work PT as a head baker/chef at a local bakery/coffee shop and go to school for my Bachelor’s in IT. *wipes brow in exhaustion*
Now that we have settled in, why not discuss your latest release? I believe you have the Fae Series with Mardi Gras books?
Mardi Gras Publishing has my new series that centers on the small town of Devon Falls, full of normal, everyday people and magic is coming to call. The first is called Sticky Magic (It will be out in December 2007 as it was at another publisher last year and has been revised, expanded and redone for MGP); Red Hot Magic came out in February 2007, Charmed Magic is my new release and it came out in March 2007. Fiery Magic and Haunting Magic are respectively coming out June and October 2007. Each story centers on a holiday: Christmas, Valentines Day, Easter, 4th of July & Halloween. All of these are written to be stand alone but interconnecting by the town of Devon Falls.
What was the first story you ever wrote?
I wrote a short story about internet dating and went on from there. LOL It sucked big time but I learned about what is good writing and figured out how to tell a story to a reader.
What is the biggest misconception about being an author?
That it is easy to tell a story. I work really hard at sending out review requests, interviewed, promoting myself as an author as well as writing something I know people will actually read and like.
When did you first decide you wanted to be an author?
I always liked to read so I figured out it was simple to explore the world of writing. I kind of just fell into it after a fellow author, Skylar Sinclair, helped be my cheerleader and pushed me to submit.
Do you have any special rituals to help you get in the mood to write?
When I was writing Red Hot Magic, I was listening to Andrea Bouchelli and when I was writing Charmed Magic, Josh Groban’s Closer was playing. It helps me center myself and let my muse get a handle on the story the characters want to tell.
How do you know what to name your books or the characters?
The characters just tell me what their names are and I let them show me their personality. The titles are just naturally about the story. It is all from my muse.
Do you have any bad writing habits?
Depends. Lol I give myself a deadline and push myself to meet it regardless of publishing date or not. I can not do outlines worth anything. I can’t work like that and fortunately I like writing by the seat of my pants. lol
Of all the individuals you have created, do you have a particular favorite? What appeals to you the most about this character?
Jenna in Sticky Magic is me down to the height and personality. Raven in Red Hot Magic is the polar opposite of me. Strong, assertive, she is confidant in her appeal to men and aspects I always wanted to be in some point of my life. Raven is definitely someone I want to be: Strong, self assured, knows her worth to someone and in herself.
You find yourself stranded on a desert island, what things could you not survive without?
My boyfriend to do the manly things (builds shelter, fish, rub sun block on me , books, books and more books. Notebooks, wireless internet on a lap top computer. Some towels and toilet paper because seriously, I am NOT using palm leaves for anything. lol
Has being published changed you at all?
In a way it did. I know more how to market myself as an author, how to sell my books to the public and to put myself out there so I can get sales and good reviews.
What do you do to relax?
Relax???!! With 2 kids under the age of 10! Oh man, I try to do that after they are asleep and on the weekends if I can. Lol I love to read, watch movies (Johnny Depp is my fave! ), have date nights with my boyfriend, take walks and spend time with my family.
What makes a great book to you?
A good storyline, one that draws you in from the beginning and you lose yourself to the storytelling of the author; captivating characters and a setting that calls to you as a reader.
If you could go anywhere, be anyone, do anything for 24 hours, what would it be?
Johnny Depp’s personal Assistant! I always wanted to know what he does in his life that has him creating characters that span the globe and bring his brand of acclaim to the Hollywood crowd. Plus he is one fascinating man and heck sexy to boot!
Do you have any indulgent behaviors one might find surprising?
Define indulgent. Lol I love a good bubble bath with candles, coffee in bed from the boyfriend on a lazy Sunday morning.
For Fun: Soothing bubble baths or hot showers?
Both lol just depends on if I am alone or with the BF! *grins*
