Good morning,
Marteeka, thank you for speaking with us today. The readers would love to hear something about
Marteeka Karland.
Marteeka why not tell us how your day is once you wake and get motivated? Are you the type of person that goes straight for the coffee?
Well, I have to have a Coca-Cola Classic. If I don't, there might be problems. Other than that, it's nice to have a quiet room, or a movie I've seen dozens of times playing. Times like now *glancing at the husband and child in the living room watching DIFFERENT programs on TV -- it's a little hard to get much done. Lol
I read you work in the Emergency Room. That must keep you pretty busy? Do you ever get ideas for stories from your work?
All the time. On both counts. Lol In Forbidden 2, my heroine puts in a chest tube, in Opposites Attract, the local nursing home is really a haven for The Coven, and numerous funny things. :)
I noticed that
Forbidden is now in print. Also,
The Horsemen: Boudica is out. You have some eye-catching covers. Why not tell us about
The Red Horsemen?
Yes! Forbidden is now in print. You can access the buy link from Changeling Press. Just click on the Books In Print button on the left.
And I LOVE my covers! I have some of the best covers anyone could ask for! We have some truly amazing cover artist at Changeling.
Boudica was a warrior Iceni queen during the Roman occupation of Britain. History says her husband, the king of their people, died and left half his worth to the Romans and half to his Wife. It was customary to give half to the empire at the time. Unfortunately, Roman's didn't allow women to own anything, so they took the lot. They raped Boudica's daughters, beat her, and were not very good to her people. So she led a revolt and became the greatest freedom fighter (and possibly the first to do much damage) of the age. She leveled three major Roman cities in Britain, including London. Unfortunately, her people were defeated on a massive scale and no mercy was shown to anyone. Her daughters were killed, as was she, though history is unclear exactly where she fell.
As the Red Horseman, she was given a chance to make up for her losses in her lifetime. She was given command of the horseman army and told to level government as the world knew it in wake of the martial law imposed on everyone in the wake of the White Horseman. Naturally, the burden rest heavily on her shoulders because she sees this as not her fight. Not her people. And she's very uncomfortable with the fact that innocents will die as a direct result of what she's charged with.
Then... There's Aries. He's exactly what his name implies. God of War. He's been sent to help her in her duties. The attraction between them from the start is obvious, but neither dares indulge. Aries, having shunned the position of Red Horseman, is now mortal and knows he'd only cause Boudica heartache if she falls in love with him. She is the Red Horseman, come to throw the world into the chaos of war and she's immortal.
But that's the beauty of God. He sometimes knows what's best for his children, even when they refuse to see it.
Another release I noticed was,
Executive Decisions: By The Numbers. Why not tell your readers a bit about it?
*snicker* this was a HOOT to write! I mean, who doesn't love a vampire ménage??? It's about two arrogant vampires who have employed a woman for ten years. All are attracted to each other, but the boys refuse to strike up a relationship with her because she's mortal. They also refuse to let her leave them. They basically buy her continued presents with a lavish salary, all expenses paid vacations to where ever she wants in the best hotels and resorts in the world, and extravagant bonuses and presents.
They work as lawyers in the town of Mount Bell, but are also highly paid escorts for the very wealthy. Imagine their surprise when their sexy secretary is their next client. :D
Would you consider erotic romance your most comfortable to compose?
On absolutely! I love romance and what's romance without a little sex?
Ok, A LOT of sex!!
What part of the book do you prefer best, the beginning, middle or end, when composing?
The beginning. I love a blank screen. It's just so FULL of possibilities!
Do you have a particular individual you created that is hard to forget?
My very first hero and heroine. Forbidden. General Kahn and Anna.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what things would you most wish to have with you?
Err.. A cruise ship so I could leave when I wanted??
Do you ever have time to relax and if so, what is the best way for you to find relaxation?
Relax?? Are you friggin kidding??? LMAO I have a 4 year old child, a 40 year old child, and two careers to manage. Relaxation is NOT at the top of my list.
I DO enjoy a spa pedicure from time to time though. :)
What do you think makes a great book?
Characters who suck you in, a situation that sucks you in, and an author who can put it all on paper in such a way that you just get... Err... SUCKED IN! Camille Anthony comes to mind here. When I grow up, I wanna be like Camie!!
Where would you like to see yourself in the upcoming years?
Driving a new mini van with DVD players all over the place. (My 4 year old likes to multi task)
Well, THAT AND with another publishing company in addition to Changeling Press. It's time to broaden my horizons.
Do you have a favorite flavor ice cream?
Mint chocolate chip, and butter pecan.
You are snowbound in a cabin for three days with no electricity, only a supply of firewood, a supply of food and your trusty pen and paper. What kind of makings of a story would you give your readers?
Oh my GAWD!!! If I was alone, it would be untelling what I'd crank out. But rest assured, it would be my best work ever!
Sometimes everyone now and then loves junk food. Do you have a favorite junk food that you really love?
PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY!!!
You wake up one morning and learn that someone has left you their winning lottery ticket. What is the first thing you would do with the money?
First thing??
Buy that mini van mentioned above. THEN the fastest, most powerful, most expensive laptop I could find and MAKE SOMEONE put windows xp on it rather than vista. THEN I'd make a donation to the Save the Quiet Kitty Fund and Dave Thomas Foundation. THEN I'd buy a new house.
After that, I really don't care. Lol
