Today I am speaking with
Amanda Young.
Good morning
Amanda and thank you so much for talking time out of your busy day to speak with Fallen Angel Reviews.
Thank you for the warm welcome, Linda. I’m thrilled to be doing an interview with Fallen Angel Reviews.
Amanda, wow, what a multi-talented author, you are. I love the Romance without Inhibition slogan on your website, not to mention all the number of books you have coming out. I am going to let you choose which one you would like to discuss with us today. So why not begin by telling us something about your book of choice
Amanda?
Wow. Now there’s a toughie. I have so many different projects coming out in the next few months. I suppose I should stick with my first release, though it’s tempting to gab about them all.
The first book I have coming out this year is Something More, which releases at Loose ID on March 6th. It’s a contemporary ménage about a bisexual man who finds himself in love with more than one person. The simplest thing to do here is just give you the blurb, so I think that’s what I’ll do. It might keep me from rambling on and on about the characters and giving away too much of the plot.
Something More
By Amanda Young
Available March 6th at Loose ID
Paul knows his lover, Will, is in love with someone else. Emma, a woman Paul himself is inexplicably attracted to. When he formulates a plan to bring the three of them together, will they accept, or let doubts and insecurities keep them apart?
For years, Will O’Malley has harbored clandestine feelings for Emma Taylor, despite the abiding love he feels for Paul Argonaut, his lover for the past two years. Watching her from afar, but loath to approach her as anything more than a friend, tests Wills control on a daily basis until he finds he’s no longer able to deny the kaleidoscope of feelings she evokes within him.
Paul is aware of Will’s feelings for Emma and shares his affection for her. He comes to realize that unless he makes the first move, Will won’t ever let her know how he truly feels. If the three of them are to be brought together, it will be up to him to facilitate it.
Emma Taylor has been in love with Will for as long as she can remember. The problem: he’s her boss, and is obviously smitten with his lover, Paul. The last thing she expects, after walking in on Paul and Will making love, is to be invited into a ménage by Paul himself.
As they delve into their new relationship, misunderstandings and hurt feelings abound, resulting in a disastrous car accident that will test the fragile bonds the three lovers have only just begun to build.
Thanks,
Amanda, I hoped you would discuss that one.
Where do you find the time to compose so many different stories?
Thanks to a wonderfully understanding husband, I’m able to stay at home and write full time. Most of my day is spent at the computer writing.
Is your writing schedule hectic?
It can be at times. When my muse is coming on strong, I sometimes write as much as 12 hours a day. I don’t have to write that much, I just do. I love writing.
Could you describe yourself in 3 sentences for our readers?
Basically, I like to think of myself as open-minded and creative. That’s one of the reasons I have so many diverse titles coming out this year. I usually follow along with whatever whimsy strikes me.
Outside of your writing, what keeps your interest? Do you have any hobbies that occupy your time and help with the creative process?
I read and listen to music. They go hand in hand really. Whenever the words begin to trickle I’ll take a little time off and immerse myself in books and music. That’ll usually get the creative juices flowing again.
Have you always wanted to be a writer?
I wanted to be a psychiatrist when I was a kid. The reasons behind why people did things fascinated me. They still do really.
How did it feel to have your first sale?
It completely blew my mind. Missing in Action was the first book I’d ever finished and, honestly, I’d psyched myself up for a rejection. I even had the pep talk ready to go for when I received the rejection letter. You hear so many horror stories about writers struggling for years to get published that I believed there was no way my first novel would be accepted so quickly and by such a good publishing house. It was a wonderful surprise.
Has your family supported you in your career choice?
Yes. My family is very supportive. My mom is probably happier about it than I am, if that’s possible.
Of all your stories, which one is your favorite? Which of your characters is your favorite?
I love them all, but I think my favorite story is Something More. I love the dynamics between the characters and how different they are. I’m very happy with the way that novel ended.
As far as my favorite character, that would have to be Tristan, from my other March release, Missing in Action. I love angst in romance and that character had way more than his fair share of it.
Do you belong to a critique group? If so, do you find this a motivation to your writing? Do you believe this has improved your writing technique and skills?
I do. It’s been great to have someone to bounce ideas off of, or just dish about the writing process in general. My writing partners are invaluable.
How much research and preparation go into your stories?
Some stories require more than others, but a good bit of what I write I pull from life experience. Everything else is just a Google away.
How did you come to branch out into e-publishing? What brought about your decision to try e-publishing?
I wanted to be published with the authors I read and admired. When my reading habits took a turn toward erotic romance, I knew exactly where I wanted to be.
Other than
www.amandayoung.org do you have any other websites that you would like to share?
Yes. I’m a participant in the Authors of Erotic Romance website. What that is, is a website of several newly published authors from Loose ID. We all banded together to help each other understand the ins and outs of e-publishing. You can find out more about all of us and read free stories by visiting www.authorsoferoticromance.com.
I also have a blog, Myspace page, and a brand new yahoo newsletter. I’m a busy girl. All the links to those can be found on my website.
What sound do you love?
Rain. I love the sound of rain beating down on the roof. There’s nothing sexier to me than staying inside and cuddling up on the sofa with my husband when it’s nasty outside.
What sound do you hate?
Wheezing. My miniature dachshund, Pepper, has a heart condition. Every time I hear her wheeze, I know it’s getting worse. That’s the worst sound in the world right now.
Is there anything else that you would like to share with us today?
I think that about covers it, Linda. Thank you and FAR for talking with me. It’s been fun. Take care.
Amanda, I cannot thank you enough for sharing time with us today, and I wish you success in your writing. We look forward to more of your remarkable works.
