Nancy Henderson Interview

Hello Nancy and welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews. It is good to have Nancy with us this morning. We are anxious to hear about Nancy Henderson and her books.

Nancy, you have a new book release out and I absolutely adore the title, Ghost of a Chance. I love your works and I noticed on your website that you have a series of books in the making.
Hi Linda. Thanks so much for having me. Ghost of A Chance is the first in a paranormal series for me. I'm currently writing Walk Fire With Me, the second book in the series.

Why not tell us about Ghost of a Chance?
Here's a blurb:
What happens when ghost and mortal fall in love? Nothing short of upsetting the balance between heaven and hell...

Nathan McGraw thought death was bad. It's nothing to landing back on Earth or ticking off a demon. He intends to find out why Sarah Price is the only mortal who can see him, even if he has to break the laws of the hereafter.

Sarah Price isn't going to take it anymore. Not from her ex who is trying to financially destroy her. Not from her family who is making her business a circus. And certainly not from a ghost who claims she is the key to sending him back to heaven.

Do you have any unfinished projects sitting around? Or would you like to tell us about the series of books that are in your list of great stories to be released?
In addition to this series, I have a contemporary finished and I'm working on a historical set in my home town.

Tell us, Nancy, what is a typical day like for you?
I work full time so I squeeze writing in anytime I can. Sometimes I get up at 5 am. Other times, I don't go to bed until after midnight. I have an Alphasmart which I take to work and write with on my lunch hour. I also take it whenever I have to wait, such as doctors appointments. They're a real Godsend, and I'd recommend one to any writer.

When you begin your stories, do you do an outline or just start writing as the mood strikes?
Sometimes I outline, like now writing Walk Fire With Me. I did an outline because the story takes place right where Ghost Of A Chance ends, so I had to keep a lot of details from the first book in there. Most of my historicals, I'm a seat of the pants writer, and I have no idea how they will turn out, other than having a happy ending. LOL

Do you dive right into your characters and become a part of the story?
Definitely. If I don't, they won't leave me alone! Hero John Briarstone from Walk Fire With Me has an awful temper. He doesn't with the heroine, Monica, of course, but with me he has no patience.

From what do you derive the most inspiration for your writing?
The parts where I actually find myself crying from the emotional turmoil I've put my characters through. That's when I know the writing is strong.

Since everybody needs a break, even when doing something they love, how do you like to spend your time away from writing?
I love shopping, not a good thing for my credit cards, though. LOL I love to garden, spend time with my dog, Katie, and spend time with friends and family. Lately, though, I've seemed to take up the hobby of shoveling snow...we just got hit with over three feet in the past two days. Why do I live in northern New York???

What is your favorite part of writing?
Starting out. I love beginnings. That's when anything can happen.

What about your least favorite part?
Other than endings, which I always stress about, I would say the business side of writing. I'm a creator. Unfortunately, I struggle with marketing. I always wonder if I could have done something differently, am I doing the right thing, etc.

Do you miss your characters when you are finished with their tale?
Definitely. I hate goodbyes, but I'm learning with series books, I don't have to let them go. So I'll definitely have more series on the way.

Any character that you wish you could write about again?
Adahya, the hero from my first release, Blackbird. He was so rough, so misunderstood on the outside, but when he finally allowed others in to see his soft side, they were hooked. I know I definitely was!

Is there another website other than www.nancyhenderson.com/ that you would like to share with your readers? I must tell you I love the opening on your website, Unforgettable Romance.
Thanks, Linda. I do have a blog at
www.nancyhenderson.blogspot.com and a My Space at
www.myspace.com/nancyhenderson I love to hear from my readers or anyone interested in writing. My e-mail is nancyhenderson2004@yahoo.com

Let’s have a little fun, shall we? Fill in the blanks concerning some of your favorites –

Dessert
Anything chocolate!

City
Lake George, NY, although that's a little smaller than a city. This is where Ghost Of A Chance takes place. Also Salem, Mass. The history comes alive there.

Season
Summer, definitely gardening season.

Type of hero
The tortured hero is my favorite. Be it an ex-con, a misunderstood ghost of demon. Gotta make him suffer!

Type of heroine
Strong, definitely, afraid but unwilling to show it. She can cry for anyone else, just not herself.

If you had the chance to see your books in a movie, who would you like to play the leading roles?
For Blackbird, hands down Adahya would be Wes Studi. For Ghost Of A Chance, Russell Crowe would be hero Nathan McGraw. For Walk Fire With Me, hero John Briarstone would be Rob Zombie, without stage make up of course! LOL

Nancy, thank you so much for sharing time with us today. It has been a pleasure Nancy, and I wish you the best with your writing. You pen such great stories that carry the reader right into the center of the action.
Thank you for having me, Linda.
